History:

- I work with mostly samples from records.
(Aside from the occasional break mp3)

- I would like to avoid using a computer as much as possible.

- I have worked with Logic and a MIDI pad.
(Getting away from this because clicking around, visuals, etc. interfered with my creative process)

- I have also worked with an MPC 2000.
(I loved the MPC, but the 2000 did not have an auto-chop function [which can be annoying when chopping a sample little pieces with the wheel], did not have a time-stretch function, nor a hi-pass filter and the next option was much more pricey)

Why a 404SX?:

- Live performances, DJing, etc.

- Built-in FX

- Lack of visuals

- 'Tap to capture timing of loop'

Questions:

- Time-stretch. How do time-stretches work on the 404SX?
(I can adjust the pitch of my sample as I would like them with the turntable, but I love adding separate mp3 breaks over the sample)
Let's say my record sample is 92 BPM, but my break sample is 95 BPM. How would I match the record BPM and the break BPM?

- Would chopping be similar to the MPC where you keep tapping the pad and adjusting the knob/wheel until you hear the chop you want or can I tap out my chops?
(I would much prefer to tap out my chops. I'm pretty sure I understand how chopping on the 404SX works, but I just want to be sure)

I'm sorry if I am unclear at all. I have never used an SP before, though I have done a bit of research. I'm just not sure how some of the terms relate to what I am used to (MIDI Pad, MPC). I can further illustrate my questions if necessary.

for timestretching: hit the sample pad, hit [time/bpm], turn the [start/time] knob from 92 to 95.

for chopping: yes to both. you can chop by ear by hitting the [mark] button to set the start and end point, then fine-tune start and end points with the knob 1 and 2

Plainly and simply explained. Sick. Thanks!

i have the og 404 not the sx. the compressor on it is dope though, sounds tougher than the 303 compressor. time stretch is kind of ghetto but good enough for me. there's a lot of other good fx though
