real pitch, the ill lowpass, AND the C/D mute group! not to mention that 202 sparkle
ext. source resample on the 303 while playing the pads on the 202, it clears up alot of space for resampling

I"ve been running x-station synth -> 404sx -> 555.
That way you have 2 SP effects , loop capture on the 555, easy to dirty up synth bass / pads/ lead with filters/vinyl sim/bit crush
Then I can sample entire patterns from the 404sx on a 555 pad, sequence it again, or do some wild effect memory stuff.

505 for Lofi, sequencing and nice pads
404 for long sample time, extra fx and good vinyl sim

If I had to suggest a chain, how about

Akai S950 into dj mixer into Sp-404 xl

sample and manipulate the start and end points in the 950 and trigger into the sp-404... vintage sound, pitch manipulation on the s950, eq and pan with the mixer, and then sequencing and effects with the sp-404xl...that makes for a pretty respectable combination...

it is not as clean as on a mpc but it is way different/cleaner than 303/404 pitch shifting.
