why dont compressors duck when lo vol hi freq sounds hit?

Post by Heat Vision »

i was just curious, i always understood that the way the ducking works with compressors is(given that its not sidechained) the low volume kick hits and because of that, the compressor has to make everything else the same volume as the kick so the volume goes down. (imaright?)

if thats whatsup then howcome it doesnt work when low volume hi frequency sounds are triggered?

basically why do compressors duck only when low frequency sounds are triggered?

Compressors are vastly more sensitive to low frequency content than to high frequency content.

Its because low frequency waves are literally larger than high frequency so they take up more of the dynamic range and therefore trigger the compressor easier.
