hello fellow sp users! i own the sp 404 just a few days so excuse me if the question is noobish, but i can't figure it out.

i have a 32 mb cf card from my mpc into my sp 404, which i initialised first. i loaded in the card 18 sequences made on the mpc in wav. then i put the card in the sp 404, and i uploaded the wavs from my card (28 mb all together) on the sps memory.

but the sp imported only 10 of the 18 loops and now shows 'ful'. how should it be full, when the card has 32 meg and i tried to load only 28? is there another limit i don't know? searched the manual but didn't find something.

thank you for your time and sorry for the bad english.

The 404 has an internal memory (A/B) and an external memory (CF card: C-J).

I guess you've reached the limits of the internal memory. It's not possible to import 28MB to a card that already has 28MB either (as wav samples will be converted to the 404's compressed format, there's got to be room for that conversion to happen).

Check the end of this page: http://www.roland.com/products/en/SP-40 ... cts-tab-02 ("maximum sampling time").

that's the issue. i couldn't have imported on the a/b banks, you can only import in the c bank if you want to upload samples from the memory card. only 10 of the 18 loops were imported, not the rest. i haven't reached the 12 mins for sure, these 10 loops are like 4-5 seconds each.

i don't see many replies.. :D anyway, converted my samples from aiff 16/44,1 (then they were 28 megabytes, the cf is 32) to aiff 8/44,1 (now they are 11 megabytes), and they loaded ok.

but i didnt like the 8 bit quality, so i don't think i'll go with this solution. it's not like the original sample 'distorted' in a cool way, is like the original sample with a lot of noise. i prefer the 16/44,1 quality for the sp, and i can dirty up my samples afterwanrds with the sp's effects.

so buying a 1gb card is the way to go. what's your opinion on this?

Buy them as you find them, just make sure they're on the list/known to work well with the SP-404.
