Hi Everyone,
Sorry for what probably has a simple answer, but I am new to samplers and don’t find the manual particularly helpful.
I recently picked up the SP-404SX, hoping to use it in my live set up. I have pre-recorded material and was hoping to use the sampler to trigger songs (and different parts within the arrangements).
I have a Moog Slim Phatty with a Microkorg as a controller (I know, need to buy a better keyboard). I was hoping to use the sampler as a master, so I could control tap tempo and have it adjust on the Slim Phatty. Not sure if this is possible with the Midi In only option on the 404.
To be clear, I have the MicroKorg (midi out) to Slim Phatty (midi in), with midi out to the midi in of the SP-404.
Is this possible? Any help is greatly appreciated
Also, the synth is playing quietly. Is it possible to adjust the mix, so the keys played louder than the samples?
Thanks again, I’ve spent hours trying to figure this stuff out and really need some help.

Re: SP-404SX Midi
The sp 404 can never be a master sadly.
Every machine has thier own output, adjust the volume to make sure everything sound right.
Or did you plug the Slim Fatty in the 404sx? in witch output?

Re: SP-404SX Midi
you can trigger audio with audio, with certian software, but ive been out of the computer music loop so long, i cant remember how, 404 has enough memory you can load a million and half hours of music into your sampler, good luck.

Re: SP-404SX Midi
midi in=only receives midi messages (so the 404 it could be just a SLAVE)
midi out=sends midi messages (MASTER)
midi out=sends midi messages (MASTER)
Re: SP-404SX Midi
Would be nice if the 404 had midi out.
Would love to use those pads with Ableton!!!

Re: SP-404SX Midi
Thanks for everyone's help. So sadly, it sounds like I'll have to have a master in the chain to adjust tempo (something like an electribe) and run audio through the SP404 and use it solely to play samples, no point in plugging into the midi in of the sampler. I was really hoping to use it as a master and avoid having another piece of gear on stage. Thanks again.
Re: SP-404SX Midi
Would this be correct?
Re: SP-404SX Midi
You would need some sort of sequencer to to be the master.
I assume you don't want to use a laptop to sequence everything?
Although, if you just have the moog phatty and the microkorg, they don't actually have inbuilt sequencers, so you would need some sort of sequencer to play the notes back into the these anyway.
You could just try and play everything live, in which case you wouldn't need any midi at all! You could have your audio in bits in the 404 to play back and then play the microkorg and the moog over the top of that.
