Exchange function problem - ghost pads

Post by dStx »

Hey guys, I encountered a new problem the other day on my 404sx. While I was trying to exchange to samples, the monitor said FUL and then my samples were lost- erased. But the weird thing is that the pads were still full, I couldn't record new samples on them, but no sounds would come from them.

I know that my card is not full. I just got a new 4 gb Sandisk and there is plenty of room on it. Has anyone encountered this problem? Its like the exchange function lost my samples and turned them into ghost pads with no sound..... weird, now I'm afraid to exchange.

thanks, peace

after turning the machine off/on, did the samples came back?
happens to me sometimes... (4og4)

let me guess... those were looong samples?

even if you had space left on your card, it just wasn't enough...
time remaining > length of the samples
-if that isn't the case, the 404 dies...

-at least my old 404 do so, not sure how long your samples were, cause a 4GB is pretty big...

Something similar happened to me with my 404sx.

I was exchanging samples and the pad would be lit up as if it had a sample on it when pressed, but there was no sound.

I think it's related to the SD card.

Fortunately for me, the problem disappeared over a couple of uses. Damn annoying tho!

I had the exact same problem under those circumstances (short samples, samples disappearing, etc.) I was using a 8Gb Sandisk brand SD card, and the total size of samples was nowhere near that 8Gb capacity and it would ghost out my samples when I tried to exchange them. Not every time, but often enough to make me dread using that function on the 404. I recently ordered a 16 Gb Lexar Professional brand SD card and the exchange function works every time!! I would recommend trying this brand of SD card and seeing if it works for you too.
