chopped and screwed
something fun... you can chop and screw any music if you slow it down and run it into the 404 with delay on, play a dummy pattern at same tempo, set knob 1 to 8's, knob 2 hard left, knob 3 hard right. now go left, right, left with knob 3. barney in my styrofoam!
2nd half of my youngbloods remix on soundcloud was done this way, with the other 404 on djfx to do sudden stops

Don't give people bad ideas. Chopped and screwed music is evil. Sounds like it's being played on a walkman with half dead batteries.

Re: chopped and screwed
I am confused on this one. Can you explain this a different way?

knob 1 is delay time (repeats), knob 2 is delay feedback, knob 3 is direct/effect balance.

By messing with the balance you're effectively turning the effect on and off, which in this case means using delay repeats to chop a segment of music and controlling the volume of said repeats with direct/effect balance (like a stutter effect I guess).
This is useful as an alternative for chopping on the SP-404/555.
kel: What about the Tape Echo? Isn't it useful for this too?

The part I dont get is the "dummy pattern at the same tempo".

Re: chopped and screwed
I think he just means a simple kick snare hat loop that you can adjust the tempo to the sample your going to add the delay to. Im gonn a try that tonight. I like getting tips on effect use. For some reason i never get too crazy with my samples but i really really enjoy producers that do. There are a lot of dudes on here that inspire me to do so but when i do, its really forced and immediately disliked.

It's just a dummy pattern synced to the tempo of the song.
If you delete the samples of a pattern, the pattern itself isn't deleted; alternatively if you record silence on a pad and then record a pattern with it: a dummy pattern.

So, basically the song is just a sampled pad, but the pattern serves to be a reference for the delay timing?

Oh, now it makes sense. Thanks for the tip, yo.
Re: chopped and screwed
OK...got it to work. Badass tip. The t8 and t16 work really well for this. Basically, by having it fully "wet" (lol) when you switch to dry, you get a pre-repeat, which is really cool.

Yes, effects like delay (time) and slicer (pattern) sync to the BPM of the pattern sequencer. If you're not on pattern sequencer mode they'll sync to the longest sample by default (works the same way on the SP-404/404SX/555 IIRC).
