Whatsup dudes and dudinas!

Post by cartesia »

Hey boys n girls,

Just thought I'd check in.. my heads finally coming clear, and reaching a point where I can form more than a single moment of sound as an idea.. ie, I might actually have some constructive ideas, and be capable once again of visualising 'song's.. which hadnt happened to me for years...

:D

I've not touched my gear in months, or thought about it.. I took a timeout, headed to a place in oz here called Byron Bay.. In byron bay we chill out on the beach all day, we can party every night of the week with all the tourists, (or track down some doof doof in the wild) ...or keep chillin on the beach... stare at the stars!
Its just a short drive into the mountains where there is a huge load of marijuana and mushrooms growing.. met some cool people, international roamers, old wizened surfers livin in their vans (joined them for a week or so), some super-vegan hippies building their very own garden of eden... this place is heaven!
What a place! Man/woman... the street music is of epic quality there too..

Unfortunately there's nothing in the way of jobs around there, so I'm back in the city, trying to figure out how I will permanently move to this dream...

ANyhow..
I am feeling fresh, and refreshed.. Hopefully ready to make some music :)

How have y'all been doing? What's new(s)?

Used to live about 45 mins away in Lismore (I went to uni there). Its halfway between Byron & Nimbin (where Cart's talking about). Nice area, but damn its been overrated by tourist baiting douchebags. Especially when it you bring in the alternative & surf aspects.

Dude, skip everything between Ballina & Brisbane, that stretch is full of bullshit. Even Lennox Head's too crowded, been that way for 20 years. South of Byron (from Woolgoolga down to Forster) has loads of gem surf spots, nowhere near the crowds of Byron & the Gold Coast. Great places to hideaway in & just chill. Much cheaper & more honest too.

Gotta say while I respect the how widespread DIY living is practised in the area, the slacker & drug cultures there ruin it. Too often they cross over and that's a pity. Coupled all the tourism in the area it gets kinda pathetic too (its a pretty poor part of the country).

Seeing the way that some people behave around the area was a real wake-up call to not fuck up. That's the difference between living somewhere & travelling through it.

yeah man, I could definitely see the underside of it all, but as a tourist you are kinda detached from that, despite it being there... Nimbin was downright depressing, thats a fucked up town

I drove all the way up the coast from canberra, and honestly its not much better anywhere north of sydney - sure there are quieter spots, but its still dominated by either up-market sydney holidayers or alt poser bums... nice scenery though. A little inland seemed a bit better, but I'm not really into the country farm-town thing..

sup Cartesia? i wondered where you'd got to. glad you're finally on the road, I know you'd been wanting to escape for a while. it can be good to have a break from music too - i didn't touch any music gear for a year while i travelled, only recently began again once i settled in London.

where are you now man? what's the plan?

Hey man!

I am in adelaide temporarily, helping my fam move house...

Next plan is to head up to cairns and get some work in the resorts up there.. do that for 6-12mos, then hopefully head overseas with a bit of hospitality experience to help me out

do it bro

try looking into working holiday visas for overseas countries.

the aussie-in-london thing is kinda played out (trust me) but Glasgow/Edinburgh are good UK destinations, or Manchester. plus there's Canada, Europe etc offering Aussies a year of working holiday before they hit 30

that said, Cairns must be pretty inviting too.

catch you over here, or back home one day
