had the 404sx for about a year now... just coming to grips with RESAMPLING BEAT METHOD ,and ditched the sequencer

however here are some things i overlooked on both modes upon further inspection of the manual

during RESAMPLE you can play either 4 MONO , or 2 STEREO pads

many times i've had banging ideas but unable to execute them in resample due to the REC cutting out when i apply more than 2 drums sounds - you know having to do multiple resamples to get the whole drums in.often causing my second bar (or even first for that matter to not sound as tight as the other - thus causing shitty tempo lags)

i'm guessing the same principle applies to sequencer - able to play 16 mono or 8 stereo samples.

hope this has helped SP vets and amatuers alike.

heres to my new approach and tighter beats...

lol . sequencer is ok but frustrating to get the quantize right...natural way is much more rewarding, and gives a more of a SP1200 feel than MPC

----

pt. 2 folks ( i know ,long read but i'm just contributing after taking so much knowledge from the forums over the last year)

...

i always get my samples / or chops (i.e the songs i sample) ready first - with wathatever effects i wann run with - mainly pitch or reverbs (in bank D). usually creating a 2 bar loop as the foundation of my beat

then i play the loop. have my drums to choose from on the banks (a/f , b/g , c/h) and select the sounds i want to go with the specific current loop . playing different drums to get right feel i then make a copy of specific drums into bank D where the loop resides.

now i use ISOLATOR to tweak the eq of each drum hit (individualy then RESAMPLING) so they sit on different freqeucnies - learn eq methods guys!

trim each drums sound and delete the un-eq'd copies from the pads

so i've got the loop and drums

now i sequence the drums over the top of the loop using RESAMPLE (also know as over dubbing) , maybe applying effects here and there ,and variating the dynamics (loop mode still off)

when the drums are sorted i tend to delete everything off the pads in bank D,except for the updated version of the loop with drums...bass time! i use the SUBSONIC and get a few different bass notes that fit the mix.resmaple them down onto 4 pads most of the time, then RESAMPLE them over the top of the loop (loop mode still of)

maybe now use chorus to expand the stereo field - and resmaple to STEREO for a wider presence in the mix

i know that the use of RESAMPLE lowers the quality a tad but i wreckon it slighlty trims it down also - maybe just outlandish thinking .

create start and end points of final loop so it joins nice (i've been using cubase so i can pitch the bpm's should people use my beats) now i know about the the resample polyphony my loops will be shit hot...and i will loop em' in the SP

final sequence gets transferred to bank E/J until i record em into laptop/or multi track if thats your preference

my coherence is off but hope you guys get the overall jist of my message
