Anyone know any good links or books or synth music making. Sort of the basics of sound processing, shit like that.

http://www.synthesizer-cookbook.com/

haven't bought this yet but i've programmed some samples from it and its a great, great general guide to programming any synth (ie, standard oscillator/LFO/filter/env stuff). I think on amazon they have a few shots from the book where you can see some patches...
Oh should mention this is not like composing, this is pure patch design

how does that 404 set up work? or are you just using the out cable one some other machine. Looks like an endless effects loop or something.

Nothing is really hooked up together in the picture, but yeah my configuration is something like a daisy chain for the most part. For sampling It goes: source->mpc(for pitching/eq/navigation of long samples)->404->404->4-track. The SPs are the main instruments here, because I try to make all my music 'performable'. Then, from out the tascam I have separate line outs (back into the mpc for final digitization) and monitor outs (to speakers and headphones). The 4-track serves as a mixer too. When bouncing everything out (or recording vocals) I might use one of the 404s as an effects send (ex. adding a little reverb to everything without affecting the pre-existing vinyl sim). I have my little korg module going into channels three and four on the 4-track, synched to an 8-track midi template on the mpc with micron as the controller. If the mpc is the last stop in the sequence, it can be used as a digital multitrack by layering [audio] tracks. Since 32mb cf cards are interchangeable between all 3 samplers, I can be flexible with moving samples around in the chain.

i use the mini kaosspad to add effects on the fly on the master outputs (l+r from the lem 210 S 10 channels analog mixer - all machines go into the mixer) or sometimes to make a loop on the fly
and... yes it's a vestax samurai mixer (PMC-05Pro D)
this week i'll cop a sp-202

Current setup.

Routing is as follows:

ESX, ER1, Micron -> Mixer
Micron Subrouted to ESX for sampling and alternate FX
Old OPL3 Laptop Subrouted to ER1 for maximum FM pwnage
Mixer -> SP404 (for sampling of everything at any time)
SP404 -> KP3 for last ditch stutters and shit
KP3 -> Rolls GLC (Gate, Compressor, LImiters)
Rolls -> 8 Track
8 Track -> Tape
Mixer also has aux sends effects to Pod HD500 for verbs 'n' shit.
Alternate inputs available for ESX and ER1 to Kaossilator and Walkman for sampling.

i see you have the synthstation 25 as well. Realized that you wasted money too. Only picked it up cause it was on sale at for 50 bucks and i said fuck it. Did make some beats in the park once with it and a 404 and ipod touch but useless in the studio.
Im intrigued by your routing setup. You probably deep in cords cables n shit.
