What do you mean by a full song? Like a 3-4 minute pop song on the radio, with a melody, hook, chorus, etc.? That sounds like an interesting challenge.

Many popular songs break down to loops and samples, so I would think it would be totally possible on the 404. But def challenging, as you said.

it all depends on your interpretation of a finished song I guess. Like i think beats on my sp as beats, but if i put them into my multitrack and layer more instruments and vocals then I am crafting a 'full' song. the limitations of the sp provides infinite possibility because of the creativity you have to apply, but i think it takes an extra step beyond the sp to really make a beat into a song. sp is bones and muscle, everything beyond that is like skin and clothing 8) and maybe a shave

i'll get the 202 at the end of this month
i'me really excited about this sampler
cause i think it got a very good sound and some say that the fx on this model are the best on the sp serie but maybe is a matter of opinions
so... soon 202/303 combo!

Well, given that the SX can use 8 to 32 GB cards, it's possible, although I don't think the vocals would be all that great. Maybe if you run them through some pre-processing first? I did a song using nothing but sampled vocals on my old ASR-10 (wish I still had that beast). I think I still have the samples somewhere...

i do all my vocals thru sp compression then eq on my 8 track, so it would be fairly easy with sp only...
just have an external metronome, record vox to sp and trigger while resampling, boom done. altho not a preferred process :| great if on the road though. also i have recently (like in the past few days) started making stuff with only my mic and sp. just voice and sounds around me, and its a lot of fun to think about it that way. i've done it in the past but results were too boring. but having to think about a structure in advance so i can leave room for on the fly ideas is neat. like "make a track in this room" or "the bus ride" shit like that... sound map

Updated my firmware!! Hopefully this means my memory card wont get corrupted anymore, losing material is super depressing.

Using the SP606's external sequencer resample function. Got my A.S. Europa running an SH32 back into the SP. Great combo! Making arpeggios that go on for days for chopping in the SP right now.

Can any other SP do this? Its a function I've only just started using a lot of. Its great for getting loops because you set the 606 to count how many quarter notes you want & that's how long it records for. Once its done recording, the sample loops perfectly too. Stoked with how well it works...

After a long hiatus (about 1 year) I am trying to making beats again (boom bap style).

I started using Hydrogen (free program) for the drums because it's much easier to program them on it than of the SP.

Plus, I can add some "humanization" by messing with the velocity, timing and swing of the drums (I have been learning the intricacies of production).

Then I just import the loops in to the SP (404) and play the samples on top.

I have ambitions of selling/leasing some beats of mine but we'll see. :D

Tools:SP 404, Audacity, Hydrogen, Slice Audio File Splitter.

In my larger setup I use the SP-404 for sampling and sound design, having fun and being creative away from my apt, and just having fun with. It seems more and more these days I use it mostly as a creative tool to keep my skills fresh and make sure that I'm still having fun. I have a Korg triton le 88, maschine, and reason 4 and I still don't have nearly as much fun making beats on these tools as I do on the my little SP-404, especially when I just agree that I'm going to finish it entirely in that one box. Limiting myself spikes my creativity and I just have so many chopping "accidents" and fx discoveries on the 404 that sound awesome that never happen on any of my other gear. My best beats easily come from my larger setup for sure but my best beat making creative experiences come from my SP-404...hope that makes sense. When I enter the battles here though I break out my SP-606. 8)

Sound map! I like that idea. I place my needle on the sound map on a small marina. Its late winter. Sounds like this http://soundcloud.com/gis_sweden/small-marina-late-winter
