sampling every drum break i know and chopping the kits.
putting them last 4 banks. I only use the first 2 banks for sampling anyways
usually music arrangements in first bank and my homemade basslines in bank b.
say word!

in these days i'm buying an sp-202 (i think i'll have it in front of me in a week)
can't wait to sample some stupid dope loops in lo-fi
;)
i would like to have another fx-unit/sampler plus the battery power option is dope, and the built in mic seems to be another dope feature to experiment with...

The sp is so abstract as a music machine. You can certainly build alot of material using it (beat and sound files come quick and fast) and filling up folders with 10 second to 2 minutes pieces is well fun. I think it's limitations are the best thing about it...

In terms of making a whole track in sp I would say that you probably need an external device which can sequence abit. But for a grab bag of sounds and loops to make the track - run it through the sp. The question then is does one make a sound bank of loads of sounds and build several tracks from that bag or make sounds specifically for one track....

Saying that I think if you make 16 bar loops using a connecting sound so that it doesn't sound like one random loop jumping to the next then you could end up with four pads each with 16 bars of sound (an atmospheric intro, a looping verse, a more flowing chorus type section and an outro) then have another four pads for fx and sweeps to keep it moving and different...

i think its quite possible to create full songs in my 404, but a bit difficult. 808 for sure can do it, especially with the 4 track it has. but if you add vox a 404 becomes difficult to work with. i do my tracks in 404 and bring to my 8 track, add vox and usually some other elements. a multitrack and 404, for me, is the greatest workflow. right now i'm using my 404sx to make "sound maps" of my living spaces. every space got a collective sound, so i'm working on tracks within that idea. also beats and rhymes like always 8)

What do you mean by a full song? Like a 3-4 minute pop song on the radio, with a melody, hook, chorus, etc.? That sounds like an interesting challenge.

Many popular songs break down to loops and samples, so I would think it would be totally possible on the 404. But def challenging, as you said.
