Buzz in signal when I plug in MIDI

Whenever I plug in a MIDI cable to the MIDI out a buzz immediately enters the signal rendering the MIDI unusable! Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?

hi, have you noticed if th connection between the 2 machines is well made? i mean midi in>midi out and not midi out>midi out etc (midi feedback)...who knows...

It actually starts buzzing before I even connect the MIDI to my v-link controller. The second i plug any midi cable into my MIDI OUT on the 606 the buzz starts!

try a new midi cable.
or rip off the ground pin from one of your machines that you are midi'ing

I dont recommend the second. but i've done it and it fixed everything..... You can also get one of those low noise floor power-bars.... if its running through a computer... there will be some hum regardless.

you could also try going out the SP 606 digital SPDIF OUT.

Same thing happened to me today on my 505 when I realized that I connected the 505 to kp3 the wrong way with a midi cable.So make sure you plugged the correct way MidiIn->MidiOut ....Sometimes it's something simple

The 606 is noisy to begin with (analog)- I once had the same issue when I plugged the USB cable in- the noise got REAL loud
it's some electrical fuckery.

Use the SPDIF output - even if you have to get any/ass device that has a SPDIF input and analog outs to use as a 'converter"

i have the same problem with my mpc 1000 when i have the usb cable hooked up to the computer. Usb is only used to run the CF card to the computer but for some reason when its plugged in, i get a hum in my recordings. Cables are funny. Was reading about running your cables parallel to each other and not across another, like a cross. If you cross em, you might get a 60hz humming buzz.

(1st post!): I reckon it's a ground loop/ earth loop - I often get it when I plug in USB on my MPC. Weird for a MIDI cable (by design - MIDI should not do this) but anything is possible: this is live/studio gear after all.

You could try the suggestion of breaking the ground connection somewhere - either in the audio cables in/out of the SP - I have some patch leads I've cut the earth on at one end - usually fixes hum/buzz/weird pulsing stuff.

Also - yeah check for running audio/MIDI/data cables too close to power etc.
