Instruments rarely work "better" for certain styles of music. Obviously if you wanted to do Hip Hop you would in all likelihood be better off with a drum machine or a set of turntables than say, some maracas and a didgeridoo. But when it comes to samplers, synthesizers, etc. they really aren't tailored to specific genres. The difference between a top of the line modular synth and a laptop running Maschine is pretty remarkable but they are both capable of making some incredible Hip Hop beats. When it comes to two machines as similar as the 404 and the 555, it really is a matter of preference.
