is it just me , or now with the ultra abundance of disposable media everything has lost its value?

does anyone apreciate anything at all anymore ? I noticed people change huge over the last half decade, and its almost like facebook reshaped the whole world into mindless page scrollers who thinnk the internet is facebook. nobody communicates anymore, friends are strangers. sorry kinda drifting.

anyway, some nobody like me or you comes along and drops the dopest shit ever, it gets a couple comments then fades in the quantum mush of the interwebs.

I think everyone has the potential to create genius works, I dont like most of it, but it makes me happy people are creating art. I mostly listen to music by artists on these forums and cant reply to it all. but honestly I apreciate it all.

I suspect my recent loss of faith for humanity might be due to a recent break up with a cold hearted back stabber, now I see that quality in everything and am angry, so I will quit venting on the internet and drink some tea and read or something.

There is an overabundance of art nowadays because it's so easy to create in this day and age. Because of that there's a lot of shit out there, but there is also good stuff because so many people are making music, movies, etc...

Also, people will always be influenced by older art once they find something they like and research about it.

As long as you like what you make it doesn't matter at the end of the day.

I felt the same way about music nowadays. It's 99.9999% bullshit, then only 0.whatever good new exciting music.

But just change your perspective, there's only so much more shit because everyone and their mum is making tunes nowadays, there's just as much great, classic music coming out now as there was in the 70s, its just it takes a deep dive into the internet to find out.

Just because good music isn't given exposure nowadays don't mean it's not out there

with music nowadays there's no kinda connection with the artist and listener. it's just a d/l link and a mp3 and so many ppl are doing the same. what is so special about an mp3 that maybe ill but nothing more than that.albums used to have liner notes what the artist was thinkin when they made a certain track or some kindve of knowledge and the music was ill on of that. also back in the day u would get the physical product from the actual artist in person at the show. or the listener would have to go out and make a mission to go find that album. i think the internet takes all that away which gets taken for granted. i try to still sell physical product at the shows or go to shows im not performin at to show im not just an avatar pic on the forum or facebook . if u think about it most artist like the wutang,tribe called quest, common they would all be at shows back in the day. giving u the album hand to hand or even puff a blunt with u at the shows. then ppl started gettin groupied out over the years so nowaday u cant even get a reply back on twitter from them.

most of the genius r homebodies who never leave the lab. i think it all boils down to connection between artist and listeners which is lacking alot lately. ppl nowaday ppl attention span and standards is different than in the past. i really dont think u can build a rep alone off the internet. it's takes gettin out as well until they take notice. i wouldnt call this a gimic, but i used to roll to spots b4 there was a beat scene and wasnt doing shows i would bring a boombox everywhere bumping beats starting the cyphers. and even the og's had to take notice. even when they didnt know my name they would remember me by the boombox, and had to take notice regardless. cause anybody can post a link on ur page or forum sayin they got the hottest beats from cats just startin 2months ago to producers doing it for 20 years.

There are a lot of great points here. I was just reading an interview BusDriver did probably about 3 or 4 days ago, and they asked him if its harder to get music out there today as opposed to say, the project blowed days, and he said, "Nooo , its much easier to get your music out there today, as opposed to say 10 or more years ago, the difference is, its much harder to be Heard". I always felt there were differnt layers of listners, or for big artist fans or whatever have you. If an artist is getting any shine at all, the heads will find that artist and appreciate that music, and start to check for them from that point on, cause just like with us crate diggers, real heads are willing to dig through the muck and find those gems in the midst of a all the rest. Ofcourse that is probably the smallest segment, but a very important one. When I would see artist in URB's next 100, I already knew and was hyped they was getting pub, etc. Then there are several different levels of casual listners that probably caught you at a show, or thier friends put them on or whatever. And then of course the largest market which is also the most fickle, that needs a video or radio play, but as soon as thats gone, they are too. But I've seen good art at all levels, and if its good, it gets equal amounts of respect from me regardless what level the artist is at. As for me though, I always did music because its what I do, whether I ever get shine or not, I'll still gonna be in the lab.

and oh yeah, the art remains, just like a musicians from our grandparents time becoming an artist that's collectable today like Sun Ra. Or, seeing my little niece who is every bit of 7 years old singing Michael Jackson songs from the 80's like its a number 1 hit today. The art remains.

i think this is just the century of the self... short attention span and living for the moment, everyone for themselves. thanks TV. as said by houseofninjas, it is easier for people to create art... you have an app on your phone that can make a normal picture look beautiful in the way an old polaroid might... you can make dubby-wobbles with a little noodling on your... fill in the blank.


I'm doing SPs and tapes, not because i consider myself a purist (not at all) but because i got burnt out on bells and whistles, needed a change. in my experience, less is more, and when you put a little "english" into what you do (how cliche is this shit that i'm writing) the end result feels more valuable, personal.
and i like being the only artist on the bill not rockin a laptop
