@juniormungus I peep what you're saying, but I sort of have you beat there. I already collected breaks and am reading up on layering, eqinq, and compression. My weakness is drums, like I said to Ill Green. I'm never opposed to learning how to do things better, which is why I've made working on drums a priority. I'm not one of those people who can't admit that they have flaws and ish, the first step is admitting you have a problem. lol ;-)
@Sleepy Eyes Thank you kindly!!!

Hey. Welcome. There are a coupla cats on here with ridiculously good drums and there are a lot of tips throughout the tips n tricks section (hint: cuz all SPs are so similar, don't just look at the 404 tips). :D
D/L Hybrids & 5ive Packs, all SP-202, 404, and 505 beat tape:

Oh no hun, I need all of the help I can get!!! I just meant I thought about learning to chop breaks and the importance of learning how to use eq, layering, etc. to make good drum sounds. I wasnt being sassy or anything like that, lol.

haha i see what your sayin now, definatly read up on all that good stuff but remember eq, comp, effects and shit are not crucial for having good drums, some prefer some raw drums right off the record!
but just crank out some beats on the 404 and your drums will probably improve over time weather you want them to or not :mrgreen:

Welcome. Good to see some female representation on the beats, especially on a SP (been trying to get my sister into it). Checked out your page...sounds like you have a good ear for catchy samples. That icanlove joint was really nice. Like the folks said, lots of good help on here. I would have sold my SP a long time ago if it weren't for the breakthroughs I learned in these here forums.

@Anark E - My bad, lol, when you said you was a chica, I thought you was from a hispanic background. I just said your beats reminded me of when I started making beats. I used to loop 4 bars for 3 minutes and call it a song :lol:

Like I said, just do what you love doing and you'll get that swing in drums.

In Hip Hop the sonic formula is basic. This order is how stuff should hit the listeners ears, so adjust the volume accordingly.

1 - Vocals (optional, but 1st)

2 - Drums (priorty #1)

3 - Bass

4 - Instruments/synth

5 - Ornamental and misc. sounds or ambiental type.

Hope that helps with your mixing part. :P
