Upgrae to EX - doing my head in!

Hi.

I've been trawling around Google for hours trying to get beyond the "Waiting midi" message on my 808 while I'm trying to send it the EX operating system. There seem to be millions of people asking how it's done and lots who've done it, but no conversations between the two.

I'm using UpdSMF to send the O/s files and the 808's PAD light is flickering obligingly, but I never get beyond "Waiting midi"

I really should have taken a zip copy of the O/s from the updated 808 that I fleetingly had in my hands....

**EDIT** When I send the files for the 808 O/S the display actually changes to "Receiving" so the connections etc. are obviously set OK. I've tried downloading the EX files from both the UK and US Roland sites in case any file were corrupt, but no difference.

Anyone?

I did resolve the problem - it seems that there was something about the EX file that I got from the Roland sites (i.e.more than one) that the upgrade didn't like. I did post a separate thread about it at the time. So I don't need you files but your offer of help is much appreciated.

I have always been reluctant to upgrade.

Only thing I've heard about the EX upgrade is the vocoder. What else it got?
