As back as I can remember, DJ Jazzy Jeff used the original Donkey Kong theme for a Fresh Prince song back in the '80s.

But the first 8bit-esique beat sampled the original Super Mario Bros. I don't remember the artists but Mario theme song was the first time I heard video game sampled-music in Hip Hop.

interesting fellas. yeah i remember hearing hip hop video game remixes in the past particularly tetris. used to hear a lot of tetris remixes.

also this one mario beat i heard. seems like when flying lotus blew up is when that shit became extra common. dope style though =D. really nostalgic sounding.

wish i was using software when i made "up the joystick" project probably wouldve had a different approach, but i got the idea out .

i dont know who was the first but i remember having a vinyl in 98 from saafir " smart bomb" >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL5eYjf2Q3g

but actual whole video game theme projects i dont know who exactly did that first.

im definitely gonna retire that sound, maybe ill flip one every blue moon nowadays.

i dont think you where the 'first' one.. but you where definitely one of the earliest before it became a whole 'hype'
not sure but i think i read somewhere that samiyam even said he got the inspiration for that shit when he heard D's stuff

also i think D was one of the first who went more innovative with it,
while what i heard before was mostly just cats looping some game tunes instead of really cutting shit up and getting creative with it..

just my thoughts on the matter though...

Well they aren't the first, but Crystal Castles use a lot of the 8-bit bleepy bloops and I am crazy about them.

we put style on that 8 bit stuff tho like really dissecting nes sounds. beyond loopin a mario bros. theme song and call it the day. now it's way too oversaturated.now's its like been there done that when i hear it, but a few stuff has me thinkin that was clever. also computer jay messed with that sound early another los angeles o.g.
