Let's talk combos (samplers)

Yes, I meant the korg microkorg. It's not really similar to the microkorg I guess. But they are both compact little units, one is a sampler and the other one a VA.

the mpc 1k and the 2500 are going well with an og 404 because of the cf-cards... export samples on the 404; import on the mpc with no computer in between.

Yeah, that's true. Hadn't even though about that.

Although, from what I've heard the 404 is pretty clean sounding. I want this second beast to basically give some dirt to my samples.

To an extent, absolutely, you are right.

But I want the time stretch, filters, pitch shift and low sampling rate. I'm sure that 404 does all of that, but this is much cheaper, and has (from what I've heard) a more "lofi" aesthetic to the sound.

Don't get me wrong, Im not trying to trash the 404, Im just explaining why something cheaper and more lofi is a better fit for me.

Just got my sampletrak and....

...I love it already. Not used to this kind of workflow, so it will take a whole lot of time to get used to. I wont even bother with hooking it up to my MPC until I've learnt the basic stuff.

Agreed on the manual. Lots of good information without over complicating stuff.

I'm on the sample trak forums now as well. I found really cool tips over there.

i have both i'm curious to share/see how you will use them together, i nver done that.

So that sp-606/Korg ES-1 combo, here's how I did it.

I put the outputs of the es-1 to the audio in of the sp606. I then just let the audio go to the headphones from the sp606 so I could monitor what I was hearing from the es-1. I had 3 different sets of effects to mess with, but sometimes I had to find the right ones to compliment eachother. I also was just trying to see if this setup was going to work, which it did. I'll try and sync them with a midi cable a little later. I still haven't decided which to slave to the other, but it shouldn't be too hard to setup.

But either way, these 2 samplers would be enough to keep my gear lust busy for the next year. My new gf is expecting, so I'm going to maybe have to just stop buying any more gear for all of 2012, so I can focus on being a father, and hopefully down the road when we've got some extra money to work with, I can look into some new toys. I still have my sp303, my other electribes, my mackie CFX20, and my Novation synth in the pawn store, but those can come out as I need them.

I'll now have to get the memory cards for these units, but 2012 is going to be one interesting year.

ok cool! i used the headphone trick when i was using the sp606 as soundcard on win xp to monitor tracks...

current sampler combo:
MV8800 (master)
SP555
SP505

Those run to 3 separate channels on my USB mixer so I can EQ and such after - its a good mix because I can still dirty up stuff on the SP505, but sequence it (100 times easier) on the MV. Also, the SP555 and SP505 are used to filter/effect different synths like my shruthi-1 or fusion.

Vinyl sim on 505 + Lofi comp on 555 + Compressor on MV = happy
