I thought we needed a thread about the music making apps that are (FINALLY) starting to show up for Android devices. Cuz they finally don't suck.

I've got shiz on the iPod as well, but that's for that other thread. :D

This one's all Android all the time, baby. I'm using a tablet w/ Android Honeycomb:

G-Stomper:
Just got this a coupla nights ago, and it's pretty great. Total electribe vibe (X0X set-up, recordable fx, etc.). Also figured out that you can import yr own samples, which makes shiz a game-changer:

Electrum Drum Machine:
Pretty basic set up but clean and clear and optimized for tablets. Reminds me a lot of Hammerhead from back in the day, but in all the right ways. Needs FX, otherwise, it's cool:

Nodebeat:
Just getting into this...looks a bit like Reactable and works a bit like Eno's Bloom app for iOS. Simple and cool, and constantly evolving cuzza the drifting machines (which you can also turn off):

What else have you guys found?
Peace.

+1 on caustic also try out supreme mpa, it's basically a cheap mpc clone. I don't have an android as the audio apps are not up to par in comparison to iOS.

very interesting thread, i thought the I-something were alone in this market sector.
the apps Fauna showed seems not bad at all. but tell me guys, talking about phones, is there a significant difference in price between the android and the I-phones?

Phones I don't know much about. I have an iPhone and an older iPod and that's why I wanted a tablet that isn't iOS, but I rognize the apps on the I pad are more developed than on Android. But there was like $200 difference, so i got the android tablet. So far I like it, but the music apps are only starting to come along really.

yeah i downloaded caustic, seems pretty cool but doesn't give me anything new that the groovebox and my laptop won't do, gonna try that G-stomper though, sounds interesting if you can put your own samples in.

i like this thread!

i gotta say, i'm really enjoying g-stomper. to me it's like the old electribe ES-1, without the 60-sec (or whatevs) sampling limitations.

so yeah, got the electrum app, it's pretty wicked, loads of sample packs to download too. Thing is i spent so much time messing about making a little house tune that i didn't actually make any proper music this weekend! ha! so much fun though, i reckon for making beats on the fly when you're out and about it'll be wicked, just gotta try not to get sidetracked! got G-stomper demo too but haven't played with it much yet, i feel i've negleted the SP this weekend though, gotta get home and give it some love!

I have sold android phones and tablets at 2 jobs. I can HONESTLY say android is not for making music. The main reason people buy android is because they get "sold" one from the salesman. There are endless android phones while there is only one iPhone. The hardware on android phones are decent, but even the top quality handsets still feel cheap for the price you pay. The amount of good music apps on android is the same number of good/quality apps released on iOS EVERYDAY. There is virtually no hardware support for android music stuff while iOS has many midi, audio and various controllers available not to mention that many of the ones you already own will work. When it comes down to it, it's all about the software and hardware support where iOS wins hands down. There's no competition here. If for some reason you can't afford an iPhone or some other reason just get a cheap/free android from your carrier and buy a new iPod touch. Tether the iPod to the phone and call it a day. But yah, stay away from android if you are basing your purchase on music apps. I doubt you will be seeing any korg, akai, moog, yamaha, IK, Roland, NI, POD or any other big names on android any time soon if ever. PM if you need more convincing :)

I disagree with you there, although you're free to try and convince me. :)

The iPhone is swamped with weak music apps just the same and only really has a few gems in the mix.

My Samsung Galaxy S2 is faster than the current iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s when it comes to music production too.

Some of the already mentioned programs run very fast and Android apps are becoming better every day. The iPhone used to be a powerhouse in comparison to many other phones, but not anymore.

As such it can't harm to look beyond Apple and their iPhone. I have owned the two latest iPhones and like the SGS2 a lot more. Android isn't closed, limited and a lot more flexible.

Still, I'd agree that the music apps available have some catching up to do as far as the 'big name' programs go. I hope they will do Android releases in the future.

Blah blah iphwn @ndroid blah use them both

And now back to the program,:

I vote

TAPEMACHINE.

You can pitch shift with it, to add a different pitch/effects to your samples... its something a lot of SPs can't do.

DJ studio 3 also does this. As for making beats on da phwn..... why would you do that when you have an sp?? Use the phwn as an aid. .. my bros
