ariel pink

Post by sleepy eyes »

so i dont know if you guys have heard of ariel pink but he makes some great sounding lofi music and i was really interested in how he produces it. its sounds like he uses some kind of sampler (202?) for drum sounds that he makes with his mouth and armpits, and he uses guitars and other weird samples, synths, screeches, and sounds all bounced to a cassette.

hes also a fuckin weirdo, but his music is sick. maybe you guys could tell if he actually uses a sp

ariel pink is the most responsable (with also james ferraro) of the so called "ipnagocic pop" (neon indian, toro y moi etc), he made those type of sounds/music 10 years ago yet, he (with a different approach as james ferraro) try to reread trash 70s/80s pop with sarcasm, irony but above all with remebrance, as if he recall to himself "how it was..." in a period in wich he never lived, so it's better to say "how it could have be..." thing. he is also a son of the american indie lofi school way of thinking (pavement, guided by voices, sebadoh etc).
i think most of his early works are just made with tape recorders (other carachteristic of the ipnagocic pop) wich give those crispy sound...then also many guitar pedals and many filters/eq jobs...
i don't know if used a sampler, hearing his music i tend to say no, but who knows...

i saw jimi in concert in rome in 2001, totally amazing. he was wearing like a bride, his music like a sort of "barry white in acid meets EBM" was delirious...
