Yeah THE.DIABOLICAL.DR.Z!
Thank you very much for starting this Thread and organizing the VIDEO GAME FLIPS 4!!!

We need 5 more Artists to join! Come on, Guys!!! :)

I am going to sample straight from the Ay3 (from Twisted Electrons). It got 2 AY-3-8912 Chips in it, they were used in 80's arcade machines...

What about rules?
I read about no sampling from youtube. Think it would be great to say just sample from original consoles like sega genesis, c64, (s)nes, gameboy, etc. or from gear like midiboxSID, SidStation, etc. where original sound chips could be found too...
What about Drums? Here i would not be that restrictive....

When we decided all the necessary things,
maybe THE.DIABOLICAL.DR.Z can edit his first post for adding infos, rules, deadline etc.

Greetings from Frankfurt, Germany... :) I'm so happy!!! :)

PSX: The Sound Chip is basically a sampling unit with modulation and fx-abilities. No own synthesis! (http://psx.rules.org/spu.txt)

N64: The Same, no own synthesizer cababilities, too. Just Sampling and General Midi-Sounds. (http://www.ign.com/articles/1998/02/25/whats-wrong-with-music-on-the-n64

How about to thow them out?

Alright sp fam, here's a draft list of rules, let me know if you want anything added in/changed, will not update the OP for a few days to allow for some suggestions to be put through first.

- Samples only from old gaming gear (Gameboys, N64, NES, SNES, SEGA, PS1 etc. Mostly 8 bit or 16 bit consoles/handhelds)
- Outside drums are allowed
- Outside bass lines are allowed
- No outside synthesis (I say this because it is meant to be "Video Game Flips" which would suggest flipping a sample from a video game, not creating your own sample, let me know if there are objections to this!) I'd like to allow these 8 bit synthesisers, but it kind of defeats the purpose of "flipping samples", again let me know everyones thoughts on this
- Tracks should be no more than 2:30 (Just a thought, perhaps even 2 minutes, because if we have 20 beat makers the tape can get quite long, just a thought though)
- Acapellas/vocal samples etc. are allowed

Again as I said this is just a draft set of rules, so just hit me up with suggestions and thoughts and we can go from there.
Peace SP fam,

DR. Z

Good Rules! :) But according to these rules, how is it about sampling from an 8bit-chip which is playing the original tune of an existing old video game?

thats ok I would say. I will be using a .NES sound file player on my NES rather than playing thru the games. Or maybe 1541U sid file player on c64

I'm planning on using a plugin on Foobar2000 called Game Emu Player, playing back ripped .vgm files from a genesis game, isolating channels in order to sample what i want (cutting out drums, soloing certain instruments) and sampling them through the SP, THEN flipping them.

Freedom.
