 Post subject: filtering bass?

sup everyone. hey ive been messing around trying to to filter bass. like drown out other instuments only to hear a muffled bass. any ways when i try it it usually gets all distorted. i noticed alot of yall have nice sounding basses. any tips for me?

You mean isolating the bass with the isolator? Yes, I understand it sounds crappy. And filtering is not designed to do this. For best results you have to find a passage where the bass plays alone and sample it there.

Either find a clean bass sample played alone, or you have to go with the low end theory and isolate the bass resample, filter resample, eq resample after awhile only the bass will really stand out and you can mix over that.

I usually start out with the low-pass on the super filter...

you don't have to find a spot with only bass, just a place where there is some space between the low freq you want and anything else going on at the same time, otherwise it will come out muddy.

The Count has a good point about not having to isolate only the bass sound but just make it stand out from the other higher freq's.

i found an excellent way to sample bass so id figure id revive this thread

turn on the effect c. canceler bank b-3

turn down knob 3 (high)

turn up knob 2 (lo)

press sampling and turn off the stereo light

you should only hear the pumping bass which was recorded in the middle of the track

LOAD UP THE FUNK
