Maybe the cable I'm using just isn't good ... Can someone recommend a good MIDI cable for connecting a 404 to a Microkorg?

I've done that, both devices are on the same channel. Any other advice?

I have both of those and they work fine together. You can use the microKORG to trigger your 404's samples with its velocity sensitive keys (to alter the sound volume).
