Been awhile, but couldn't resist Nina Simone — excellent choice!

In keeping with the "simpler things" approach, the melodic samples are all from the first 15-20 seconds of the piece.

Re: SPBB 342 Poll
TGN picked up some swing on vacation! Love it. The bass was, er, ace... kept everything anchored and lent an undercurrent of menace. Dug the horn hook.
Asha solid as usual too. Liked the variety in the beat, the synth gave it some extra movement and warmth, and the rhodes loop kept the whole thing ...

Re: SPBB 342
The sample sounded good to me no matter what I did to it. This one's pretty straightforward. And pretty loose...

Re: SPBB #341 Poll
Another one for Asha... beat trips along nicely, liked bookending it with the reversed sample, smooth melody from the sampled strings and it even has a B section. Give me this, a j and a cold beer on a sunny terrace and I'm a happy man.
Re: SPBB #341
Deadline, wat dat?
Sorry we killed you TGN.
Did manage to scrape together something as the deadline elapsed, but also broke the rules and added some synth (which probably wasn't worth it in retrospect). Looking forward to Asha's battle.
Thanks for the narrative and sample, SP-USER. Wish I'd had ...

Re: SPBB 339 poll
between kel and jay for me this time.
thought kel's was the technically superior piece — in particular, a beautiful job stitching together the different parts of the sample. could listen to the last 30 seconds on repeat. gorgeous. thought the vox let it down though. would've taken a beat drop ...

Re: SPBB 338 Poll
Was between Selga and Galochin for me. Really like how the two of you treated the sample. Both have a chill, meditative quality.
Galochin sealed it for me with the understated bass and the fresh melodies you stitched together from the chops.
Was cool to see most people pick the same sample to work ...

Re: Well I guess this is the SPBB335 Poll
Some seriously solid shit this round.
Standouts for me were Noire, IIIII and Asha, with Asha taking it.
TGN: Love the drifty synth and clattery percussion. The vocal sample drop was, well, real gangsta. Well-arranged, lots of layers and variety. Bonus for the road production.
