IMO pre production sample editing should now be allowed given that so many new users have an sp404mk2, and that machine has pitch shifting.

Perhaps even limiting pre-production to pitch shiftng, or other basic sample editing functions. (IE.) No effects.

Mostly breaks chopped, and sequenced, but sometimes layer in ie.kicks from a kit when the break kick lacks thump.
I'll use kit drums too just sparingly.

EQ tip. The max sampl-rate is about 9.38khz I think so set your lo-pass filter to half of that about 4.7khz.
This will cut out a lot of the 8 bit noise floor hiss. Then if you want to boost from 5-10k you won't have tons of hiss on your samples.

No I never owned an sp, but I have a 224.

The 224 is probably pretty similar but warmer, and not as crispy for snares unless you eq.
At 16khz probably even a little dirtier. Just eq the hats, and snares to get the sp smack.

For that one I sampled into the 505, and then resampled into Renoise where everything ...

Samples were treated in the 505 then resampled into renoise then sequenced.

The 505 is a little slow dealing with long samples, but otherwise one of the better sp's.
