Re: Music Direction
So I'm back. Still going through with making the mixtape. It's been a looooong while since I've been on here so I bet people probably wont even remember what it is that I'm doing.
Made on track that I can say I'm okay with. I'll post it up on here sooner or later.

Having trouble finding good drum samples. Or maybe I just don't have that good of an ear for finding them. Any tips?

Re: Music Direction
Just uploaded a beat.

Made it around the same time I made 'Rap music is Lame' so it has the same packs. Getting around to finding good 80's records.
EDIT: Also added another one. Just a Cortex sampled played around with.

Re: Music Direction
Made a beat.
Lots of useful drum packs and jazz packs on this forum. You're gonna hear some of em used on this one. It's a pretty simple beat.

EDIT: hopefully I didn't screw anybody over. Like I said this beat is VERY easily made with the packs provided on this forum, so if it sounds similar to ...

Re: Music Direction
I have been really stuck lately trying to get a decent beat out.
I decided to work with one of my friends so we can bounce different ideas off of each other. Any other tips?

Re: Music Direction
Are you using monitors or old speakers? Could just be off levels on your samples.. Sounds like the drums are clipping a bit..
EDIT: You can see they are all clipping int he wave, sharp spikes being chopped off so you get that overdrive effect at the peak.
I'm using this VST plugin on fruity ...

I see what you mean. I can probably fix it. So you mean that only the drums are distorted too much or is there anything else that needs fixing?

Re: Music Direction
lastly, if you want to go the evolving beat route a la flylo, software is a good choice (unless you are already into hardware and know your way around) if you want to do it in hardware you need lots of money for all the compressors, samplers, synths etc. But most importantly the arranging in ...

Re: Music Direction
Thanks for your help, I wanted to make something reminiscent to SAMiYAM but yet I kinda noticed after listening to the beats for awhile that I'm not interested in the way it loops so I got into Flying Lotus more. Flying Lotus has this thing about him where like his beats tell a story. But now I'm ...

Music Direction
Hi I'm new to the forum. I'm working on my first beat-tape and I'm having trouble of what to do, not necessarily in production, but more so just trying to find out what type of direction I want it to go. I have many ideas in my head but it's hard trying to figure out what works and what doesn't ...
