With a 404 theres not really much more you can do than beats. The 555 has a much more useable sequencer and with loop capture it becomes properly useable. Unfortunately theres no swing function which would be great for house/garage and all round groovey stuff but definitely think about getting one ...

Why have you got to chop a loop? You've never tried chopping different parts of a track by listening for the chords you want or the best bits? Youre asking for us to tell you how to be creative basically. You have to try new things man

on the 404 its basically impossible to make anything remotely exciting. it will likely sound like a child made it too cause you just cant get complexity in the drums. throw in the polyphony issue too...

What do you mean? Once it has gone to mono you cant reverse it.

If you have a mono signal and you want to give it some width/movement in the stereo field then using effects such as chorus or a little bit of phasing will do that. SP reverb is a stereo effect too by the sounds of it, use a little bit ...

btw i only used the drums that were already in the 555 when i got it and its basically just 808 snares lol
