Long time since I've been here, haven't used the 606 that much lately. I just recently bought an iPad, and want to use it with the 606. Is it compatible with Core midi? I would love to use the 606 as a sound card for the iPad

Although it doesn't have a sequencer and no midi out, I think you still might want to check out Waldorf Blofeld. No sequencer, but a GREAT programmable arpeggiator and awesome sound. It's also very cheap and can be upgraded to hold and process samples.

Yes I currently own a sp-555. What are the possibilties with an sp-555 and kp3? Why is it worthwhile?

With two SP-555's you get plenty of power, but it would offer nothing new in terms of features. The KaossPad 3 would give you a whole range of new stuff, very exciting sample manipulation ...

Do you currently own an SP-555? If so, I think you should definately get the KP3 over yet another SP. No question as far as I'm concerned.

Looks like a excellent synth. It would definately be an option for me if I was looking for such a synth, but since I already picked up a Waldorf Blofeld module and Novation KS rack last year, it would be a little over kill with yet another VA.

Plusses for the GAIA over the Blofeld in my view ...

Yeah, the pads on the Akai do seem better than those on the Alesis. How do you find the sounds in the Akai? Useful outside hip hop/r'n'b production?

I did a read up on the Akai, and it seems the sound sets are aimed squarely at hip hop and r'n'b. If you'd like more varied sounds, the Alesis SR18 is supposed to be more or less the exact same machine, but with different and more varied sounds:

Regarding OP:

Anyone mentioned the Akai XR20? Has 12 pads just like the 404 (but way better ans velocity sensitive), tight 3 track sequencer, some great bread and butter sounds too. Just midi em up.

Hmm, wasn't aware of that one. Certainly looks like a capable machine, if its sequencing is ...

The sp-606 should also be considered. It has a fairly decent sequencer imo, including both realtime and step time sequencing.
