Re: MPC Touch

I wonder if it will be subject to annoying software updates that render it obsolete after 5 years.
I will be looking for this at AES.

MPC Touch

Have we talked about this yet?

This looks pretty dope- no MIDI though, but (I guess) you could use a MIDI to USB adapter?

Re: Need advice on FMR rnc vs. rnla.

What he^ said.
I have the RNC and it is really 'scientific' WYSIWYG.
To my understanding, the RNLA is more freaky, and less transparent.

The FMRs are awesome for sidechaining. as you can see on the back panel, they have a dedicated 1/4" connector marked "sidechain".

Also with these units, you don ...

Re: recording sp to tascam portastudio

Have you consulted the manual, and followed the instructions exactly?
Have you tried another channel?
It could be busted, have dirty heads, or need to be demagnetized.

You might want to re-think your medium. If your goal is to create good recordings- there are so many better options than some old ...

Re: is a 606 redundant if you rock with the 505 already ?

The pads on the 606 are better for live playing, and you can use two MFX at once to create ill combos.
The mic pre on the 505 is cool, but you can work around by using an external one for the 606.

Re: sampling from jack to digital in

The 606 can process internally at 24 bit. I found this out by accident one day with a 24/44.1 Pro Tools session I had routed through the 606 via the digital jacks.
To get clean audio into the 606, I often use my DBX386, which has analog ins and a digital out.
I have two 606s, one I just use as an ...

Re: iPad: perfect compliment to SP?

I have an iPod Touch with NanoStudio. I make lots of cool little beats on the move.
When I get back to my main rig I go through my Nano beats, soloing the synth parts and sampling them onto SP-606 pads (ditching the drums). It's a pretty awesome way to get original samples- then I can further flavor ...

One is mic, and one is line though.
I'm not sure how (if) the 303 treats a mic in.

You could always do the Y-cable thing.
Or- by using a patch bay you can normalize the output of the pre to the 303, and also patch the other one.

Re: There must be a simpler way of doing this!!

I would just resample direct analog into the MP.
What some call loss of fidelity, I would call character.

Re: Sub Pad Function (The Green Pad)

I've messed around with that button too, but I gotta admit I don't get its appeal. Why not just hit the same pad twice and have 16 buttons ready to go instead of 15?

Maybe I'm missing something here... HxC- what is it that makes the button awesome for your playing?

Yes- what Cartesia said-
I ...

Re: new flagship sp coming soon?

Got the Roland Connect "New Products for 2012" email this week-
Nothing even close to what we'd be sweating.
They have introduced the http://www.rolandconnect.com/product.php?p=integra-7 which might get a rise from hardware lovers.

The Beat Thang looks like the device to beat at this stage for stand-alone radness.

Sub Pad Function (The Green Pad)

I feel like a dingbat for just 'discovering' this after 4 or so years-
but [FUNC] 9 (Pad Utility) you can switch this function on or off and it turns pad 16 green and that becomes a pad that plays the pad struck most recently.
It's pretty awesome because I play my SP live a lot now- and you can get ...

I gave up on loading samples to the 606- no matter what I just sample it in now- I was looking at the Roland site just today- seems the new 404 and the 555 are the last surviving tabletop samplers from Rolly

Re: sp 505,555 ,404sx,808

I though 606 has much lower output than 505...When I had sp606 ,I had to use the master effect as volume booster....!

Ya- the 606 leaves a ton of headroom, becasue- as you know, with some of the FX like delays the volume can get dangerously high.

Kinda like on MPCs- when you sample, the volume ...
