DRUMS!

When it comes to compressing drums using the vinyl simulator, do you compress one drum hit at a time, or do you compress the whole break?

If I compress the break too much, I notice that it resonates all the hiss from the record. This creates a muddy low end.

If anyone can give me some advice ...

The 404's Best Friend

I'm aware that most of you use the 404 with a computer and I'm just curious as to what role your computer plays in the mix?

80% of the time I'm working strictly with my computer, the other 20% is spent with the 404 as an effects processor. However, there are days when I just want to do everything ...

The reason why I want to include it in the chain is because I have not yet found a PC equivalent for certain features. Those include the Vinyl Simulator and the Isolator.

Is this correct?

SP-404 >---[MIDI IN > MIDI OUT]---> MPD24

MPD24 >---[USB > USB]---PC

This should give me the ability to sync my SP-404 with FL Studio and sequence in it?

SP-404 > MPD24 > FL STUDIO

Can I run an SP-404 through an MPD24 which is connected to a laptop. What I want to do is sync my SP-404 with my Fruity Loops sequencer.

Cutting

Is there anyway to make a sample playing on one pad cut out another sample playing on a different pad. I was able to do this with my MPC 1000 and I'm just wondering if it's possible on the SP.

If it is just the converters and the difference isn't noticable then I'm not missing out. The beauty of any SP is that you can get the sound you want using the effects. I've gotten a better sound on the SP then the MPC 1000.

Appreciate the feedback, PEACE!! :wink:

Why people choose the SP-303...

Other then the fact that it is a classic sampler which was used by J Dilla and Madlib, why do people still choose 303's over the newer SP's such as the 404? I have heard rumors that it has a lower bit-depth but when I brought that statement up at a music store, the salesman laughed and told me to ...
