There's one thing I don't get about making beats on the SP-404 though. What if I want to make a beat and I'm not sure of its BPM? So let's say that the SP's BPM is set to 120 and I start tapping a beat that's in fact 130BPM, how will it fit? How will I get a correct ...

It definitely works best with an external MIDI controller/sequencer. I use it with my Yamaha RM1X and its step sequencer and it really makes the difference with fast and complex rhythms, but I suppose that getting the hang of the 404's realtime recording is just a matter of practice.

One last question: can I store entire sample banks? So in case I want more than the 120 samples, I can just replace an entire sample bank instead of each sample seperately.

I'm kind of new to this. I'm buying a SP-404 soon and I need good electro-house drum samples. I know of the 100+ drum machines pack but that's not what I want. I am willing to pay for a drum sample CD, but all I could find are beats from which I have to cut the sound. I would like a CD that contains ...

I have some questions about the SP-404:

1) The manual states there might be problems with extremely short samples, but most drum samples are extremely short. Will I have problems with that?
2) The manual says the SP-404 supports up to 16-bit of wav files. Aren't most drum samples 24-bit though?

Is the SP-404 good as a drum machine like the MPC500? I can't find any videos on Youtube where it's used for drumming rather than triggering pre-made loops.

Does anyone know how much you can store on the internal memory of the EMX-1? I don't really feel like buying a Smartmedia card.

I don't have one yet, it was too buzy in the store and it closed earlier than I expected. I really need to test it out before buying.

I'm just wondering if the SP-404 would still suffice if I bought a Microkorg or Waldorf Blofeld in the future. Or would the SP-404 become too limited?
