Hey D.W... thanks for taking the time. I've done all of what the "good book" says and it's no use. What the real question is is: is it possible to boost volumes ABOVE what the initial input volume is??

If the answer to this question is "yes' then I've got a problem in the machine.

I cannot seem to the output volume higher then what the recorded level initially is... (this is following the instruction manuals directions). I've tried everything including boosting the overall input and output levels.
any ideas?

I've posted earlier in regards my inability to get sounds moved from my Mac onto a memory card and into the 404. I thought I'd try a different Subject and try to hook someone who actually uses the 404 with protools.

the short of it is that I can get the sounds onto the card but the 404 ...

I was a little hasty a couple mails back. Still not working. the problem seems to be that bouncing to disc imprints some digidesign info in the file which doesn't allow the 404 to recognize. your advice about taking the music files into Audacity and then exporting out of Audacity works! I don't really understand why. Is it because of Protools itself? this is what I do now:
1. take mixed files/tracks out of protools by burning to disc/ saving to desktop.

thanks for the feedback and i'm sorry i never stated the obvious. Yes I read the owners manual (and followed instructions) and yes, I adjusted the external volume control and it did not help. anybody know if there is a way to adjust the internal mic in the 404? I swear i'd like to get mine hotter then it currently is. seems i saw it posted somewhere but can't find it now.

Hey- i just can't seem to get anything imported. I've formated my new sansdisc 1GB, pulled some 16 bit sounds into a folder and dragged them next to the Roland folder (vs. inside) and I just get a big fat "EMP" every frigging time I try the importing. i'm sure i'm just missing something simple but ...
