live sampling during playback?

Hey guys i was wondering if any of you can tell me if it is possible to record samples with the mic or line in while playing back a pattern or sample??
i.e. If i had a drum track playing on the sp 404sx and i wanted to record a guitar or vocal line while listening to it....
also wondering if you can sing through the mic using the built in effects while tracks are playing back for live situations?
