ive had my eye on a korg ms-2000 for a while, since i heard a few tracks my buddy did with this synth and his dr.sample 303 waaaay back in like 2000. i still remember the tracks he played for me. but i bumped inth a roland sh-02 and that thing is pretty cool too. so now im looking at alot of synths and im really liking the difference between the ones with a shitload of knobs other than the ones with patches and fewer knobs. Id like a synth that i could make a bunch of layers of textures and padded sounds instead of those one mostly used for leads in techno music and are mostly monophonic. Just thought id post and get a few words from the worlds finest producers.

If you want to layer stuff, look for a multitimbral synth.. that basically means you can have more than 1 different synth sound playing at once..

Do you want to play it live or sample from it? The Blofeld would be a good choice (I think) - you would need to get a keyboard for it or sumthin tho.

didnt know that about multitimbral. and yes id like to sample from it. and im not all that into lfo's and that stuff, i just want some real nice sounds and get away from the soft synths cause i always wanna move the buttons around but its weird moving the knobs in the computer with a mouse rather than a hardware device. like, have you ever seen that Thor synth that comes with reason, i open that and im like wtf!they got shit i never even saw on a synth, its crazy. i think if i got all the knobs in front of me id be able to figure something out and maybe understand synths cause ive used soft synth for a while but usually stick with the patches and filter it.

did you end up getting an mpc or MV, if so I'd go with the SH-02 and just multi sample it for polyphonic stuff. plus if you hang on to it for a while its guaranteed to go up in value. you could use it for a while sample the hell out of it and then if you find something else or get tired of it, sell it for at least what you paid, but most likely more with the way the market is for vintage synths. plus its a pretty straightforward synth with a good fundamental sound.

thats a dam good idea but its something memorable about the korg ms2000 for me. but that sh02 looks pretty cool and looks like it has a str8 foward interface.
no i didnt get a mpc or a mv yet, people bought all my shit on ebay with e-checks and they take a while to process,its been like 10 days since i sold my sp 555 and the check still didnt process, but i aint send that shit yet for just in case purposes. but im still between an mpc 1000 and a mv, can prolly get one or the other for about 4 or 5 beans. so im almost there. thanks for asking, im samplerless at the moment and banging around in fruityloops, its pretty depressing. making this humungous sample library for when the time comes.

with synths, i dont really know what sounds i want, its weird, i have little experience with them. i just want a machine that id have fun coming up with sounds and has a bunch of knobs. i watched a video of the korg ms 2000 and this dude was making sound after sound and explaining the knobs, just be fun to explore a synth then sample my creations. But i mainly like padded stuff with a bunch of delay, and rhodes- like sounds with a bunch of effects.

You might like to get one with built in effects then, so that you dont have to use up your SP effects on it

the ms2000 is ok man! i was lookin' for it too before buying the juno 106 and the jv1080...maybe there is also a sort of sequencer inside of it...

i watched a video of some dude who programed a drumloop with the ms 2000, probably a bunch of noise samples cause the hi hats sounded like noise and the kick sounded like something froma drum machine in the 70's, that is now our new retro drumloop. weird! but it looks like a pretty cool machine and ive been watchin em sell on ebay for like 200 bucks.

kinda but since this post ive looked up the juno and the jv and a bunch others but that korg is my bassline, im already biddin on one, hope i win.

If you want to layer sounds, don't get an MS2000. It can play exactly two different sounds on a maximum of 4 notes at once. Not too much there for layering anything! I'd rather recommend a model of the Roland JV/XV series or one of the better E-MU sound modules - both of those series let you layer four different sounds in ONE patch/preset and then offer 16-fold multitimbrality (16 different sounds at once) and 64 or 128 voices polyphony!
If you want to play chords with pads and even layer them, you SERIOUSLY need many voices. MS2000? Probably the worst possible choice for that except a monosynth.

is that true? the ms2000 is just mono? if it is, fortunately i didnt bought it...

so im prolly lookin for something polyphonic, see i dont know anything about this, i looked at a few of those jv/xv series and they look pretty cool, have you used one lone star, are they nice with the pads, warm sound and fun to program or is it a pain in the arse to sit and move them sliders, cause most of the vintage synths i see have turning knobs and a shitload of em for osc and filters.
