Besides the SP-404/202, the MPC500, and the way-too-expensive roland TR's

are there any other battery powered sampler/drum machines?

I'm after something with x0x/electribe style step-sequencing rather than 404 style phrase sequencing.

The Boss DR Series are mostly battery powered and some of the Zoom ones are. Don't think I've ever seen any with the TR style interface that run on batteries. The TR-505 (doesn't have the traditional TR sequencing but does have the grid like the others on screen) runs on batteries (I think) but it's sounds suck. Would be fine if your only wanting it for sequencing other stuff.

But forget about sequencing on it. It is something like SP-202, more portable tho (something like vhs tape).

Theres a newer version of the su-10 the su-200.

Also theres this http://www.zzounds.com/item--YAMQY100 I think that would work well alongside a 404 for sequencing.

i have a Yamaha QY-70. it has linear step sequencing (with the option of recording phrases you tap). The drum sounds are pretty impressive, it has a kit or two for alot of different styles. It takes 6 AA Batteries and is about the size of a videotape. this box does a lot more other stuff though so it may be overkill if you're after just a drum machine

hey Frantic, that QY100 is ideal for sequencing the 404. I've been using the QY70 (one model earlier than the 100) to do this job for awhile.

I know the Boss DR202 runs on batteries, as does the DR-5. Probably other Boss drum machines do as well. Not exactly sure if Zoom drum machines do though.

There are several drummachines running on batteries.

Novation circuit, good price/quality/battery life (6h) it's a sequencer

My personal suggestion is one (or more) of the pocket operators. Great little beasts.

The po 33 (K.O.) is amazing for the price. $89. can't take quantize off, but leave air before the sample to get around it. Can sample directly, also has a mic to sample with. Can chain patterns, lopass/hipass filter, pitch, 16 live effects (can only apply to entire beat). 8 sample slots for keyboard mode & 8 sample slots that chop the sample into 16 parts. Can make full beats on it, a lot of fun.

Also the Volca Sample. $159. I've had it for 3 years, for the price it's insane (this WITH the K.O. is bad ass only $250 for 2 brand new portable samplers). Only issues are you have to download the samples & can't take off quantize. If you have a tablet, ipad or computer it's really easy to get samples on it & same with the K.O. I leave a little air before the sample to get around the quantize if needed. The analogue isolator sounds great. The reverb isn't bad, it's different. You can mute. Pitch. cut samples (even chop, but only 12 tracks/sample slots, so you use a lot up when chopping), can chain patterns.

The Akai XR20 does. Not sure on battery life though.
