Special Challenge - NO Quantize - STARTED!

Basically just another open challenge idea, but I want to find out if people dig the idea enough.
The
only rule is that people do
not use Quantize. The idea is beats will be entirely au natural. I've got no problems with echoes or bpm synched FX, but don't use it as a work-around for quantization.

Before this special battle can kick off though, we need someone to come up with a dope sample or perhaps a theme.
But basically people are free to use external samples, so it's quite a secondary thing.
Anyways, let me know what ya'll think of this!
Peace

Interesting idea.
I always wanted to practice and get better at actually playing stuff rather than sequencing

I'm down with it.

Cool, yeah I think it will be a good way of improving overall timing. It doesn't have to be a micro-wave beat (making a beat using 'resample' only), but I think the results will be interesting.
Perhaps you've got a theme suggestion? Or a sample?

Yeah, that's fine. But don't worry this one won't start before at least the SP battle has ended.

hello peeps.
PHeMoX here are some links to potential samples to use for this. These come from an African Musical Instruments album:
Here are a few of the tracks I chose:
http://www.box.net/shared/xh7zc9ehz3http://www.box.net/shared/7vfce78i0ihttp://www.box.net/shared/65ycxrzejeI typically like to sample sounds foreign to me. Let me know if everyone is down for this, if not, I can keep searching. This is my work computer and my boss, a 76 year old fuck face, doesn't want us to decrease productivity using headphones anymore. So it's real f'n hard to hear on these little speakers and not get caught. Anyway, hope your down. Let me know.

Well, there's no point in closing it if only a few people are joining in, so I think this will be open for a while!

Just make sure to keep an eye on this thread, but it won't close within at least two weeks.

Sick idea dude, do like this one. Should be way easier to do something gnarly with these compared to the last open & last SP challenge (they were hard or I was lazy, either way)... Got a few ideas now. Thanks!
Too bad your boss is a douche though. Bet he's one of those types that inflicts the worst radio imaginable too. Had one like that before, heh. Long live past tense.

Yeah, it's a free-form challenge so to speak, where really the
only rule will be
not to use any Quantize. Consider everything else allowed, from adding vocals to doing crazy multi-gear productions or tracking out to cassette for extra grime. People could even make a video cut beat or add scratching if they'd like to.
I don't mind if people use software either, just as long as (at least to some extent) it will be clear that it was made without any quantize. The idea is to make an as natural sounding beat as possible. Music with a honest swing and all that, you know!

Peace.

how about tape echo only since any time you use the regular delay its quantizing?
