i'm torn between these two: KP3 or Kaossilator Pro. Which one would you prefer to go with my SP404. I've got a Xiosynth as well so synth is not that important.

Go with a kp2 and a used kossilator, it would be the same price, used kossilators on guitarcenters used web section are $120.

While the Kaossilator Pro and Kaoss Pad 3 are pretty damn cool, they are relatively expensive. You can buy a SP-404sx and Kaossilator or KP2 for the price of a single Kaossilator Pro... :p

Still, the Kaossilator Pro and KP3 do offer quite a lot when it comes to FX. So if you're looking for a serious FX box ( and like the KP signature sound that tends to be electronic ) the KP2 or KP3 will be the best solution.

The Kaossilator Pro can be seen as an improved KP3 to some extent, but it does lean a lot on it's synths. It can sample as well though, so it might be the best of two worlds in a way.

If budget isn't an issue, I'd go with a Kaossilator Pro. I wasn't too fond of the KP3 when I had one ( that was before OS 2.0 ).

i heard the kaossilator pro can be played like a synth from the midi in finally?

if you just want effects get the mini kp

if you want to get a frankenstein box that can also make slicing re-arrangements with real time start point adjustments to the sliced loop, get the kp3(best and most unused feature of the kp3 imo)

using a kp3 BEFORE the SP in the signal chain actually has way more benefits than using it as a looper/fx, after the sp, in my experience.

wow thanks everyone for replying. budget is not an issue (yet), however i live in Vietnam and shipping + taxes over here are ridiculous. Basically I'd have to pay retail/used price + $100 for any item weights less than 8kg, anything above that is $13 per kg. So I'm most definitely looking to get either the KP3 or the Kaossilator Pro, I'm not gonna go the KP2+Kaossilator option because it would cost me more.

I'm still finding more info about those 2 pieces tho, even tho the new Kaossilator Pro features and specs are still sketchy at this point.

Hey that pretty interesting to hear, but what do you use it for then? Or how?

Are you for example sampling scratch-style sound stabs or am I missing something functionality here? :o

I would go with a KP3 - since you already have the xio, you have synth sounds galore (better, more editable)

KP3 gives you - all the cool glitchy stuttery effects (+ the rest)
and it gives you a 4-track looper - (meaning you could like play 1 synth line in, loop it, then play a different synth bit, then another, etc...)

OR.. maybe the Kaossilator Pro - 4 track looping again (with overdub this time but no step-slice).. Instead of having all the effects on the Kaossilator Pro you have all the vocoder sounds - plug a mic in and get crazy.

In terms of routing.. use it both ways depending on if you are performing or producing :D

yeah, i 'm leaning towards the KP3 too, i could get it brand new for $300 and have my cousin bring it back to save on shipping + taxes since he's coming to visit in 2 weeks. Either that or wait for the Kaossilator Pro, but then I'd have to pay retail $400 plus $100 shipping, man that's $200 difference not even counting the waiting time

Yeah, the difference is even bigger when getting a secondhand KP3.

the 8 segment slicer/re-arranger is what i keep coming back for

that, the tempo (ie real) pitch shift, and of course quick resampling

so i can slice, pitch, and fuck samples before they reach the sp  then its on to even more resampling!

Yeah that is indeed a neat thing, especially when re-arranging 8 beat long perfect loops with that.
