Try the AKG K44's..

they're the kinda 'consumer' aimed AKG headphones.. but they are still very good.. because of course its a 'proper' brand making consumer headphones - rather than a 'consumer' brand trying to make 'pro' headphones...

I picked some up at JB HiFi (Australian Music/stereo/games/etc retailer) for A$69 using a gift card I got for christmas..

Other headphones I have are

- some random sony "DJ" headphones (A$80) - uncomfortable, sound like they have a high shelf filter on them.. good bass but lacks hi freq response.

- technics DJ1200mk2s (A$150) - which are good for mixing in noisy environments, and built like tanks.. but not very clear (kinda super-exaggerated so you can hear the kicks and the clicks well in noisy environment) and very uncomfortable.

- sennheiser HD212pro (A$150ish when i got them) - which are quite comfortable and not bad, but nothing amazing... good headphones though.. sennheiser are a good brand and available just about everywhere. I would say they are similar in character to these new ones i have, just.. not quite as good in any regard. I hear with Sennheiser the HD365 (? ) is the way to go.. lots of big producers seem to use them on the road.

Alot of people who DJ as well like the HD25s but I find that kind of really small earpiece, while its good for mixing.. i dont like it in a studio.

The AKGs are big enough that they encapsulate your whole ear, and there is air-space between the speaker and your ear, so its not taxing like headphones can be. They sound way clearer than anything I've heard before, can still pick up a good amount of bass (and right down to real subby stuff) without the high suffering at all.. They're also very very light despite their size, so they're comfy as to wear..

So yeah.. if you want clear response headphones but can't afford the K241/K240 (i think thats what the good ones were? really even they are quite cheap in the scheme of things.. I just needed to spend my gift card on something vaguely useful) try the K44s!

:)

It's amazing how much more I can hear when I listen to music now.. its almost like listening through a magnifying glass or something - it seems easier to discern the edges between things and the textures they're made up of etc...

You forgot Nady's 660 QH headphones, had mine for 5yrs now and rock like the day I opened the package. Real durable and cheap. And the sound is clear and the bass is booming. Got them at Musician's Friend and they got a deal of buy one, get the second free. Around the ears is like a suade fabric and the ear piece rotates 240 degrees around. Highly recommended.
