I've got one but haven't got into the nitty gritty of it yet.
Just started fuckin with it over the weekend.

Sounds like an interesting box to me, but I fear the whole 'not-so' stand-alone part.

First people I heard talking about the Maschine complained about the basic editing capabilities and basically the software side. (Hope I'm not mixing up with the BPM here.)

i dont see the big deal in the notsostandalone part when the processing time is 0 and everyone has a laptop near their setup anyway

very versatile too. some dude has 5 guys on ableton running to the maschine where he sequences them into a full blown high quality live act

Hmm. I too am put off by its dependance of being hooked up to a computer. I certainly use my pc for music production, but sometimes I like to get away from it and do this old style.

For me it's not so much a matter of wanting to get away from the PC, but rather the software-related implication of developers assuming people are fine with software having handful of bugs (at all times).

I like my music gear bugfree, because I tend to do a lot of single run music production. That's why I'm a hardware guy.

I like modern day software when it comes to features and being less expensive, but I can't handle the overly annoying PC crashes when it's vital my work doesn't get lost.

theres no bugs i have heard of.


and as i recall you dont even need to touch the computer once you get going...
on the 555 saving a loop takes however long the loop is because theres no real processing power

the maschine takes full advantage of computer power meaning all those hohum tasks of saving and chopping become instantaneous and you can do it all without touching a mouse

it would be a shame to overlook it just cause its got a software component. a damn shame.

Oh, but I am not overlooking it, I'm just not actively searching for new gear at the moment.

To tell you the truth, I'm feeling comfortable with my current gear and basically do not even know that much about the Maschine and haven't dug into it yet. Yeah, I've seen YouTube movies and such, but I haven't touched it in real life yet in a store.

The bug stuff comes mostly from hear-say and the early adopters, so I'm not too surprised in that it might be wrong or already fixed and updated now.

It's risky to call it bug free, but you may be right in that it's perhaps a non-argument.

You've made a good point though, I may very well underestimate the Maschine... but would it be a good addition to any random home studio or in combination with my MV and MC-808? I suppose I've simply got to investigate.

both on here and on the korg forums people are talking on this box... both good and bad stuff... i think its cool but between graphics and wasting time im on my computer enough.. plus i dont own a laptop... the guy on korg forums was raving about how you just connect it to your lap top and its just as mobile... thats if you have a laptop.. if the 555 had a battery i would have one already... if the maschine ran off an external hardrive then i might get one... i dont want to have to update my computer and clean off my desk/get a bigger desk to get a $600 grove box.. i have a computer desk and a music desk.. i like them separate..

i understand this. i agree. if pc brokes (bugs) then maschine too i suppose. plus i like - personal opinion - to separate the 2 things.

ahaha, it's amazing how they talk against the 404 without really knowing its potential...., yes, also, they comparing the 404 to the esx-1...the esx-1 is more powerful, this is known...

The very same tends to happen when people talk about the MV8000 and MV8800. They usually compare it to the MPC2500, even though both MVs are much better. Better than the 5000 even.

but fortunately i knew some more intelligent mpc boys wich compare the 2 MV beast to the mpc4000 (another really beast)...
other say that the mpc5000 is a real flop...

Yeah, but that's something that sort of surprises me. The MPC5000 has certain obvious flaws perhaps and it's launch was full of bugs, but I think most people don't like the fact that it's more dance / electro music centered or something.

A bit like why most cats wouldn't consider the MC-808 for hip-hop, even though it can make hip hop just like any other sampler can.

It's interesting to see that some more intelligent MPC users know what's up with the MVs though.

i have an opinion about that.
once i tried the korg es-1 mkII. i thought it was very well. but the (good) sequencer in-line and the only one-shot sample possibility made me feel like this machine was more techno/house conceived...i felt that this sampler was conceived for more "regular" (in-line) beats....
that was not bad: is like that that i sold it and i discovered the great sp-303...

Yeah, you are totally right!

It's perhaps why at times there are people on MVNation without an MV, but with an MPC1000, MPC2500 or even MPC5000 asking lots of questions. ( They usually sort of deny being interested in buying an MV. )

Nothing bad about the MPC series (except maybe the 5K), but I'm glad I never went with an MPC, because I probably would have ended up buying an MPC2500/5000 then and wouldn't have had the courage to switch brands either.

I must say though, the information is out there. Especially YouTube videos convinced me not to go for an MPC2500, but instead the MV8800.
