I got a Numark TTX



nice high torque for scratching (or rather, learning to scratch), huge pitchbend range and the ability to lock the song in key so you're adjusting tempo without changing pitch, BPM detector, built very sturdily. This piece of gear has endured many late night sessions as i scratch away to a newly made beat. It's also played countless dusty records in pursuit of old breaks and potential choppable bits and pieces.

at the moment I have it going into a Numark DM 1050 DJ mixer. In contrast to the turntable, this is a piece of shit. I think this was made by some 3rd party then had Numark's logo printed onto it. The crossfader produces noise when it is moved and the EQ knobs may as well be painted on. Luckily it has a 'mini' cross fader for the Cue/Monitor line out, so I route out from the headphones into the 8-track (non-DJ) mixer to allow this non-noisy fader to be used.

How are you guys playing your records? What mixers do you use?

I also use the TTXs.. I got 2 of em. Ive had em since 2002 when they first droped. I snagged the first pair at my local GC I love them...crazy pitch ranges and a pretty good time stretch. A samplist/tablist dream deck if u ask me. I want to get the new vestax flagship tables as a 2nd pair now. Those have the best feel of ne table ive used.

I use a Realistic brand turntable that I bought for $20, no DJing possible just sampling. The only real DJ turntables I would buy though are technics 1200, I've used all the major brands and nothing really compares in my opinion.

1200s have a great and are built well.. but thats about it. They need to get in the game. They dont have to go crazy....but come on... at least let me swap out the RCAs or power chords if they go bad...which they will...lol. If your cables go bad u gotta open up the friggin turntable to change em...stupid. A little more pitch control would be nice also.

True, I do actually like a lot of features on other turntables, but you could drop a bomb on a technics 1200 and it would still work, plus I'm always taking old equipment apart and refurbishing it anyways because I like old vintage gear so it's not a big deal to me I guess.

Ive had my TTXs for 5 years. One of them fell off the back of my car once and landed on the platter side... didnt do ne thing but break the needle and the little plastic thing that locks the turntable was lost... pretty friggin solid table. Still.. I gotta wait till at least 10 years old to be able to compare it to a 1200

Damn I've never used a numark, but that sounds pretty damn good.

How many times did you have to replace the needle/cartridge?

I have one of those cheap Presidians that RadioShack makes. I don't plan doing much sampling with it, at least not any serious work, though.

Numarks are the best. I've got an older one, about 6 years old - never missed a trick I'd like another one though...

Well if DJ Numark named himself after them they must be pretty damn good, but maybe he used that name 'cause they make really good mixers, oh well either way sounds like they got the goods.
