best electribe es series?

i have the opportunity to buy either an electribe es 1 mk1 or mk2 20 dollar price difference, when im doing my own research im getting mad confused on all the different electribes and basically have only determined the difference to be amount of drums and synths you can track and sample times?? if anyone on here owns either or these or the other ones (if they are mad better) could you run down some of the differences as far as sound quality, ease of programming and whatever annoyingly left out features there are that would be the bomb.
basically i think the mk2 is probably better, but i want to know from some people who like and use them what they think cuz you know sometimes the original is best... for instance i already read some places the es series supposedly has better sound then the newer ones (emx?esx?) im so confused by all the differences being in 2 letter initals.
what im looking for in this machine is something to program real tight and clean drums (step sequencer) and synth for various club electronic music, i also have an sp 404 so in the end i hope to be able to link the 2 together for a clean/dirty combo of sound
i need some reaffirming data! PLEASE

i had an es-1 mkII but everybody told me that the differences with the mkI was only the look and the factory samples.
i think nyquest got one es-1 mkII, see the studio pics thread in the freedom of speech section.
anyway i think the very best es series is the esx-1, but the price is far different from the other 2.
peace

yeah i guess the other newer 2 are more like 3-400 . ... but then are they that much better than the es 1 series? one review i read said the sound on the es is better and on the newer ones they sound like toys

The ES doesn't have a real tube in it either, so I don't think sound wise it makes sense for a reviewer to suggest it sounds like toys.
If you want an approximate idea of how they sound, take a look at the many YouTube videos. I really can't say there's a huge difference, but I haven't played with them in real life more than two times actually.

yes, youtube is rarely good for that...sometimes it happens to ear good examples but it's rare.
anyway if you find an esx-1 at cheap price take this...if not, good luck with th es-1 mkII.
cheers

AFAIK the original Electribe ES samplers have a maximum sample frequency of 32 kHz, while the newer model ESX sample at 44.1. Add to that the vacum tubes in the ESX and the sound should be significantly better (at least on paper). Also, sampling time could be an issue in the original ones.
From what I've read the ES units have a nice gritty sound, though, so if that's your thing they should be great

The tubes are more of a marketing thing though, as they aren't actually used as a normal tube would. They're only their to amplify the final sound, meaning it will hardly give it a true tube sound. They're somewhat overrated because of this.
I have to say though that for me the limited sampling time surely would be a reason to go for the newer Electribes, but I've been rather spoiled with sampling ever since I was using my first sampler.

i have an esx1 and i love it... strictly hip hopish stuff on it though.. i dont know how they didnt catch on more for this crowd of cats... there are so many people on youtube making the same ol stuff on the emx and esx with stock samples... why get the sampler why not get the synth box... anyway i think its great and if you want longer sample time you could always link up an sp to the es or esx via midi right? a lot of people suggested i do that but for what i do i havent felt the need to do that trick yet... i DO run my esx into my 404 to "record" though.. adding vinyl compression or whatever and sample the whole song to a pad and then export to the card off my sp.. if you run across anyone doing cool hip hop or boom bap stuff post em up..

thats pretty cool, if/when i get this im gonna try somethign similar put run them midi synced after i have the patterns created on both
i have an sp 404 as well so sample time isnt necessarily an issue.. im looking for something also with a cleaner sound than the 404 so that information was very helpful to me about the sample rates differences. i think you just talked me out of going for the quick purchase of the es1.. but i do hear the stock samples are pretty decent in that mk2 , part of what i need is some nice electronic drums and synths besides the samples i can make with what else i got. i want to have the sp for grit and effects and whatver voice samples and have the drums and bass from something crisper.
thanks alot for the info guys - you da best
edit: checkin out some youtube vids i think im going to be looking for the emx

Very cool music. Sounds like The Flashbulb. Do you know that guy?
The drum programming in your songs is awesome man. Very relaxed stuff.
