Im looking to sample some live instruments/sounds.

Does anybody know of any reasonably priced mics that I should get?

I use a Studio Projects B1 which was pretty cheap when I bought it, about £60, but it's quite bright sounding and doesn't sounds that great on some things, like female vocals. It's bangin on guitar tho.

I've heard good things about the MXL V67g, I dunno if it's still available, it was cheap when I last checked anyways.

But these need phantom power because they're condesners, if you don't have anything with phantom power you'll want a dynamic, a Shure SM57 will always get the job done, or a Sennheiser e835, I got that, I likes it very much.

Oh yeah what SP do you have?

Shure SM57 is used a lot to mic the instruments.
With this one IMHO you can't miss... It cost around 100EUR-USD

Believe me its very nice...i like it's "crispy" but not "harsh" sound,although you may not like it...It takes 9V battery so no phantom power needed and it is very quite...i use it for field recording very often...
Keep in mind that it has nothing to do with "warm" big-tube sound!

You can record almost anything as long as you don't abuse it!
For heavy loads of dbs and close-mic technics the sm57 is better..

I have to disagree with the above post, I've used said mic 100 times and I hate it!

Might I recommend the small diaphragm RØDE M3? I can run off of either 48V phantom power or 9V battery, has a low battery meter, optional 80Hz bass roll off and more. Check it out here:
