CompactFlash card not good?

So yes, I got a 555 for Christmas, and I feel I'm getting the hang of it pretty well. But these problems have inspired me to join this message board, because I can't find what's wrong anywhere else.
I bought the JAMedia 2GB CompactFlash card. So, I've been loading samples on by using the mic in and loop capture. But I've had some serious and frustrating issues. When I play back on the selected pad, it will play a jumbled mess of the other samples in that bank, and the one selected, and just repeat. So I'll then have to re record the sample, and try again, most of the time with success.
Now, when I turn my 555 off, and go back and turn it back on, the samples and work I did are gone, and sometimes when I select the bank, it will re format the card.
Also, the samples recorded onto the card sometimes have this weird pop noises.
What the fuck? I assume it's the CompactFlash card, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something stupid before I return it and get another. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks in advance,
Nick
