Yo folks, I know you always got the good tips so I need one again...
i'm looking for a simple program that allows me to integrate and play vst instruments... I wanna have this for my little bro, but I don't wanna overdose him with cubase and setting midi channels and stuff. he's playing the keys pretty good I think and I wanted to hook him up into making his own music... You know he's twelve so it got to be easy... he has a keyboard with midi out. So is there a prog that allows him to select a instrument and start jamming? Would be so dope... Any suggestions ? I need an answer until christmas...

Alright... I've got one.. Maybe I should do dome more researches before posting ish?! Anyway.. I've found "chainer" and I guess I've seen that prog already somewhere over here...

Checkout Cantabile Lite, it's free and has some nice features. It even has built in audio recording and midi recording but is still very basic. Probably be a good starting point for your little bro.

on pc or mac? I know steinberg has this thing that is only a vst player..

The thing is that I has to go step by step with him. He don't speak english so it's got to be a simple piece of software ... My fav is still chainer, although the mentioned ones are looking nice too...
My main intention was to give him better sounds then his keyboard has onboard. You know he really liked that Edirol Orchestral VST which is dope indeed. So my first step is let him play that shit and record it to tape. Next step would be recording with audition possibly multitracking. ..but yo I can't give him a midi interface for christmas... I guess he would be mad dissapointed, so to be on the safe side I just bought gta 4 ( ) + an usb interface...

SAVIHost is a little derivate of VSTHost that has been crafted for the sole purpose of automatically loading exactly one VSTi. To do so, savihost.exe has to be copied or renamed to the name of the PlugIn's DLL. If, for example, the PlugIn is called blabla.dll, savihost.exe has to be renamed to blabla.exe.

AUDACITY. Easiest shit you can learn, and it will host vsts.

Sequel is very very cool, but unfortunately both Sequel and Sequel 2 do not support plug-ins... so, even for only 99 bucks it's rather limited.

That is, unless you know something I don't.

It's alright. You know, I would have bought Sequel if it had VST support through plug-ins instantly. The program is really good.

Check out http://www.brambos.com/ only $30 and is a nice, simple, host/sequencer app. Kind of like FL Studio and Kinetic 2 (which you may also wanna look into) mixed together and stripped of all the confusing shit you seldom/never use.

On the free side things are pretty thin. Mostly trackers and I wouldn't recommend any tracker to anyone who hasn't used one before. It's a completely different approach. Here's a couple freebies though.

Great little app, dead simple. It's like the next step up from Savihost. It basically adds a sequencer to any VST. Just check it out, it's hard to convey how easy, useful, and powerful it is for something so simple. I use it to test out VSTs before they make it to Renoise or Reaper.
