yo.
so... I've purchased all the christmas presents for this year, and I have some extra cash in my pocket now.
What should I buy? I'm thinking either a microkorg bk (the limited edition one with the black keys) or a pair of studio monitors. Probably some krk rokit 5's second generation.
the microkorg new is around 450-500
and the pair of speakers is about 300 plus tax.
anyone have a pair of rokits? They are pretty affordable for monitors but are they worth it? If so should I go for the 6's? Are they that much better?
discuss.

id probably do the monitors, only on the strength that better mixes and sound quality will come about. i own an MK as well, the LE model only differs in color and usually, when their done selling that model u can find it cheaper than the standard. i personally dont have those monitors but ive always heard they're great for hip hop and electronic styled music.
it a tough choice!

BAH!!! I want a microkorg so baad.. but I have to tell myself, that I need to work from the bottom up. Sound quality is first, as I'm rockin beats through some some aiwa home stereo speakers right now. Not very good ones mind you.
So, yo, monitors... who owns rokitt 5's? And is it worth it dishin' out the extra bread for the 6's? I trust people here more than anywhere else on the internet when it comes to production advice.

if your in a room smaller then like 12 x 12 then its probably not worth the extra cash for the 6's, because an untreated room is going to have more places that need fixing the bigger u go. just my 2 cents

Like Ax said, if you haven't optimized you studio space from monitors you might be better with really good headphones to monitor on. That is a new microkorg with a much more professional array of features and build quality, due out in early '09 so you got time to save.

yeah even w/ monitors its still trial and error. better to buy 500 blank cd-rs w/ both head phones or monitors . i perfer monitors cuz i cant control my volume knob!

i like to rock the cuts loud when I'm in the creative process, gives me motivation. That's the only reason I would buy the 6's over the 5's. But fuck-it right, I should put the extra dough in my sock drawer and wait for that new MK to come out. Although I have a feeling they are going to rape you on the price the first 6 to 12 months it's out.

True, plus it is nice to feel the music rather than just hear it.

comin from a car audio standpoint(5 years @ best buy install) having the 6 will sonically give u the best response for low to mid response. tthis is good cuz u want your kicks to be felt to a certain degree becasue inna car thats how "bass" is defined. sub bass has no real shape therefore the thing ppl will unconsciencously (sp) go to is the kick. idk. maybe too techy but ima nerd like that in a cool cats body...lol

skip on the rokkits!
honestly my best advice ever, go for the Yamaha HS series...or MSP5s if you want 5 inchers, but foreal on the cheap monitor front the Yammys have it, even though they claim they are new NS10's which is a marketing ploy they are still the best monitors for the money...
I just got some dynaudios for a steal or i would have got the yammys..they are very cheap too!
and I can't wait to scoop that new microkorg! sell my axiom and get that, yes!

Yeah, niq knows what's up. People here in Oakland always want 12s and their car sounds like shit. A few smaller subs will hit you hard in the chest when the kick drum hits.
