Does the SP555 work as well with Kinetic as the SP606 does? Also, is it as good a soundcard/audio/midi input device as the SP606?

never used the 606 with a computer. But ive dealt with alot of soundcards/interfaces and the 555 performs very well.

I did use the SP-606 with P606 and that worked great (after I finally had figured out the USB-issue; apparently Windows can only handle 10 different USB devices and the 11th device you want to install won't work as expected about 9 out of 10 times.).

Hi all,

Thanks for replies so far.

I’ve had an SP606 for a few months now, but not yet really delved into its possibilities – been too busy doing evening session work and my day job (not music related, sadly). I’ve picked up an SP555 over the weekend for £200, so I reckon I could sell that on at a profit, or sell the 606 for about £200 (can’t afford to keep both).

I like the 555’s portability, ruggedness (compared to the 606, anyway) and fantastic memory but want to be sure that selling the 606 won’t backfire on me down the line when I have time to work on my own material. I want a studio and performance sampler, audio/MIDI interface for my laptop, good fx, reasonably useful sequencer (I’ve learnt on an MC909, SP-808, Yamaha RS7k, RM1X – all used for a while, then sold to finance the next purchase!)

I have Kinetic 2 & Sonar Home, plus Reaper, Audacity and Acid Express – using software rather than hardware is doing my head in, but I’m getting there. So, I guess my real question is this:

If I sell the 606 can I still do everything it can with my current software and 555 combo? What won’t I be able to do?

hi,
Had my first proper play with the 555 today. One thing i need to do but can't work out how is import my band's backing track set as wavs (1 song per pad) and then sequence them to play in order at gigs (we're a laptop and live bass outfit). Can 555 do this?

SP606 can, fairly easily. I think I can even step sequence the pads on my laptop in Kinetic and then load the sequence data onto the 606.

If the 555 can't do it look out for it on Ebay tonight!
