Hello everyone!

My brother owns a 404 that I used to use before he took it to college with him. I'm looking into buying a sampler, and I was considering the 555.

I didn't like that you couldn't use the mic to record over another sample. At least be able to listen to it while you create the sample, for reference. Does the 555 have this capability?

If not, does anyone know of a sampler that I can simultaneously use as a loop station?

The 555 does indeed have a built in looper. Maybe one of the 555 owners will chime in with some more specific info.

yes, you can simultaneously record vocals, instruments etc. over a sample. you have the option of recording over the sample or isolate the new recording. however, you're limited to 15 seconds of sampling using the loop capture function.

there might be another way to record over a sample by resampling but if anyone knows for sure please correct or confirm.

to my knowledge only 303 and 505 can resample external source while pads are playing, feel free to correct me if im wrong .

If I remember right, the 404 is capable of this as well.

i never checked a 404 one out before ,
the ext source resample feture is rad .
it makes it a super gheto multi track for rappin

the 555 is rad for spittin ill tight raps just gotta peice em together

then when you got all your verses slap em on quantinize and put em

on the clicker so you dont gotta bang em live .

thats pretty much how i learned the 555 to be.

Wow, I love that feature. I can't believe they left it off the 404, roland always makes it so you almost have all the features you want on one sampler but then put the other thing you want like battery power on a different box.

Enterprising bastards at that. That's why I stick it out with the 303, as long as it can play back samples I'm happy.

You can record a loop and then overdub whatever you want onto that. If you've already copied your sample to a pad just resample it back to the play pad so you can overdub vocals etc. I've only had mine a short time so i don't know what other methods there are but this works pretty well and you can quickly build up and overdub samples on the fly. I seem to have a slight timing issue with the loop capture when i set it to 4 measures, doesn't seem to loop perfectly so timings a bit off even though i have it synced to my RS7000.

All i'll say is the SP555 is dope!
