So I finally found the right adapter for my portaone and got it working. Now Ive got a tape in there and it wont record. It'll rewind/ fast forward fine, but when I press play or record it dosent budge. All channels are up and the busses are on 1 an 2. Could someone tell me whats going on here? any help would be greatly appreciated.

(btw porta one is just a simple 4 track cassete recorder. if you were wondering what im talking about)

Well, it sounds like the motor is fine, I would open it and see if there is a problem with the play button contact or mechanism. It would probably cost more to have someone fix it than to buy another.

Yeah its weird. When I press record, the VU meters for tracks 1 and 2 light up, and the red record funtion light flashes. I also hear the motor trying to move when I press it down. Yeah it wouldnt be worth it to get it repaired, this thing cost me $16.

All right, I don't mean to be insulting your intelligence when I say this, because I want to make sure all the bases are covered. Did you check to see if the write protect tabs that are on top the cassette are broken off or not?

If by "doesn't budge" you mean you physically cannot push the play and record button down then lopar-xl may be right- you gotta put tape over those holes on top of the cassette - if you have limited resources chew a small piece of paper and put it in the write protect hole (dont ask) . If the cassette tabs were the problem you were most likely born in the 90s

also check for loose/broken parts and small pebble-like shit by the tape heads. I have fixed decks before by just shaking em a little and lightly pressing the buttons and finding little shit to remove.

Nope not the tapes. I opened it up and found out the tape heads were stuck. Works fine now... Thanks though guys.
