picked up an sp303 recently to use beside my mpc1000, really impressed with the sound/character it has i wish i got one years ago,

I have a few issues though,

1.when I apply vinyl sim to a sample and trigger the pad it makes a loud click/pop at very beginning of sample playback even with control knob two set to 0,

2.horrible distortion when using vinyl sim and turn knob 3

3.scratchy volume pot

can anyone tell me if these things are normal?

i have the 303 and also noticed the distortion when turning the 3rd knob in vinyl sim....I think it may be normal.Same with the pop sound you mention.

1. The compressor on vinyl sim knob 1 often causes a loud clipping noise at the beginning of the sample when it's turned up too high. Same with/ more so true with MFX 12.

2. You mean like a warble like a warped record? Cuz that's what the effect does. Otherwise I'm not sure.

3. Probably just need to clean the potentiometer - Google that one.

thanks guys, sounds like issue 1 and 2 are standard for the 303 and the scratchy volume pot isn't much of a prob,

@timmytoga yeah the warble effect is sick but it distorts badly when adjusted while sample is playing, still not that much of a problem

its dope making beats with the 303, got a 404 or a 505 in my sights next

thanks for the replies dudes

sorry for bumping this old thread, but i just want to let everyone know with the same question that:

1. any compressor freaks out when sound goes from silence to very loud immediately, it will peak or make a loud "pop" noise

2. sp303 vinyl sim ctrl 3 always gets distorted badly when adjusted while sound is playing
